I'm with you -- I actually find the Perrin awkward and uncomfortably in all grips.
The Camillus Mad Maxx does feel good in pakal ... standard reverse-hourglass dagger handle. Not only that, but the flippers act like an Emerson wave. That is, if you carry the knife in your pocket (clip does not accomodate this, so it will just have to be at the bottom of your pocket) tip-up with blade side forward, as you withdraw the knife the flipper will catch and the knife will open. A slight shift, close your hand, you're in pakal. Again, at 5.5", the Maxx has a bigger blade than many pakal advocates are comfortable with. I'm happy at the moment with the bigger blade, and carry the Maxx this way.
Day in and day out, though, it's the 710, which is smaller and easier to carry, and has a clip position which accomodates edge-up blade-forward in the pocket.
