Wow, gang… what a crazy race that was! I have to admit, I didn’t see this coming at all. I’m humbled, and honored to have won such a prestigious event.
As far as I can see, my knife is easily the LEAST ‘Bowie-like’ knife to have made it into the finals, and is so far from anything even vaguely traditional that I was hesitant to even offer it up for consideration, originally.
Russ Andrews’ blade was the shoe-in, or so I thought. It has all the classic aspects of what I think most folks would qualify as a Bowie, and like everything else he does, it’s all just ‘right’.
Don Hanson’s blade is, well… Don. Exactly what I expect from him. Mammoth, big, wide swept blade, appropriately sculpted guard. Classic Don!
Aaron Wilburn’s knife is just over the top in every respect. A true
tour de force.
Sam Lurquin’s monster blade is a teenage wet dream, from start to finish.
Truly not sure where I came in, here, but I’m just honored and privileged to be able to share a stage with all of these masterpieces.
I'm glad it didn't come down to combat. I would miss Matt.
In the immortal words of one of my favorites, the Dread Pirate Roberts…
For the record, I voted for Marc’s knife. For me, the knife is exactly what it ought to be, and nothing that it shouldn’t. The focus of the piece is entirely on line and form, with none of those things being blurred or distracted from by the materials used. Elegant and austere, and precise in execution.
