i have been looking for some good budget knives mainly knives under 60 dollars and was wonder if anybody knows of some unheard of knives in this price range

Opinel, Victorinox, Mora, A.G. Russell Hunters Scalpel or Woodswalker (sadly it looks as though the exemplary and underrated Deer Hunter has been discontinued), Schrade 1095 line, Byrd, Cold Steel Tuff Lite Pocket Bushman and various hawks, Douk Douk, Mercator Black Cat, Rough Rider, Svord Peasants and most of their Kiwi line.

Okay, I think that covers a pretty broad range of modern, traditional, utility, tactical, fixed blades and folders.

I agree with Rough Rider, Colt, Kershaw and CRKT. The new Schrade Old Timers are also good as are the Opinels. I have and used all of these brands. Most models under $30.

Used knives are the best "unheard of knives" in your price range. Check out the exchange here, flea markets, swap shops, Craig's list. Can't give you much information unless you tell us what kinds of knives you like.

Welcome to the forums. Budget knives (whether it be <$20, <$40, <$60, etc) are frequently discussed here. I suggest you try using the search feature as I think it will offer you a LOT of useful info on the knives you may be looking for. It may be as easy as searching for 'budget' and then finding the right thread aimed in your price range. Good luck with the hunt!

Bladehq currently has a sale where you can get a free range folder AND fixed blade for right around $40. I can vouch for the folder.

Just go to wallyworld aka Walmart and grab those ozark knives for 3.99.. Get 10 and you will still have money left over for flashlight and multi-tool..

How about some frequently "heard of" knives under 60 bucks instead?

Every time someone asks for advice on a knife I sound like a broken record. Look at the basic Spyderco line--Dragonfly, Delica, Stretch, Endura, Native. IMO, you get the most knife for the best price right here.

For even more of a budget line, look at Spyderco's "byrd" line made in China.

Otherwise, Kershaw's Chinese knives are usually good for the budget-minded (I don't know the current models). You probably should like assisted opening knives if you go this route.

Then, there are the occasional bargains that pop up and get high praise from knife like the Utilitac II, Kabar Dozier, etc.

Lee48 makes a good point... Your bet is to stick with your "heard of" brands when going budget... Usually a good reason the lesser/un known brands are as such, because they're usually potentially made of dangerously poor quality... The "heard of" budget brands, typically earned the namesake by at least making a half-decent product for the particular price point...

There is even a thread on this front page of threads (as I type this) regarding people posting their budget edc knives.... A little keen observation (and the search feature) can go a long way to answering your questions before you even ask.

I think the main thing to look out for is that you can find a wider range of quality in that price point than nearly anywhere else. There are $4 knives that are worth $4, and $60 knives that are worth $4. the main thing is to look at what you want to use it for.

Things to think about, reputation of the brand, scale of production, finish and final edge, handle material, steel. Take for example an opinel folder. they are a bit rough, need a bit of work to get them really nice, but every dollar not in the handle and finishing is in the steel and treatment. They are produced in vast numbers, and have a very good reputation. Then take your average middle of the road "tactical" folder. maybe its got G10 scales, those are not exactly cheap to produce. Its got a lock, thats another piece to design and manufacture, maybe its got lots of little jimpy bits, and a clip. By the time the handle is done whats left for the blade? cheap steel, a coating to cover-up the finish of the steel, and some hardening to some degree. But if what you want is a nice handle, with a mean looking blade, then buy what you like.

Best of both worlds, blade and handle, Victorinox pioneer. can't go far wrong from there.

Kershaw Scrambler is another great all around folder for the price, cam be at at right around $30.
