Best budget neck knife?

The only one I have under 40$ is a Tops Alrt. It is the black knife on top. Essentially a kiridashi.

The knife on the bottom is the Brous Silent Soldier. It is a great knife but way over 40$. However Sog makes a version of it called the Snarl which I recommend for under 40.

ALRT fan also... John

Not sure how strict you are on it being a neck knife. If you can be a little flexible, I can recommend something quite size compatible that I have found to be quite useful...the Boker Plus Urban Survival.

It can clip to your shirt pocket or pants pocket.

Mine came quite sharp right out the box. They make it in several models and should be very close to your target price.

I still regret missing out on the Buck Hartsook. That is a perfect micro neck knife.

Can’t go wrong with the CRKT minimalist though. It was one of their best knives IMHO. Personally I prefer the CRKT Spew though. Or for something abit bigger CRKT Obake. Just make sure the edge doesn’t get dulled on a crappy glass filled nylon sheath. CRKT puts out ALOT of glass filled nylon sheaths...shame on them.

Plus 1 on this. A very very decent budget neck knife or pocket fixed blade. One of the few diamonds in the rough to still be found in the SOG lineup, imho.
Also, the Nemesis Afterburner. Very decent little blade which can be found for very little if you shop around...or at least, used to be able to be found for very little.

I have a Boker Lil Friend that I like and I will eventually pick up a CRKT Minimalist Bowie or Wharnie, how can you not like the minimalist for under $20?

I stoled the Folt's Minimalist fob thingy idea for my CS , and it does work to improve grip !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Love my bk11, but even though it is called a "necker", I could not imagine necking it, unless on some extreme outdoor mission. Too large a profile imo for edc neck carry so I got the TDI clip to hip carry mine.

Imo an edc neck knife, should be smaller profile, a quality custom kydex sheath for your favorite folder is a great option imo, (I have the linos for a Kershaw Blur), I also have a Boker K-bit, as well as a TOPS bartender I like, both not much bigger then a normal pendant.

Considering the TOPS bartender xl as a tweener. Larger and more useful then the bartender, smaller and lighter then the bk11.

CRKT Civet. Comes in bowie and drop point. I have both, but find the drop point to be my go to.
Also, the drop point can be found on sale for under 20 bucks at a well known internet knife seller.

Wow all these neck knives look great!

I live in Californa and fixed knives are illegal to carry unless it is open carry :(.

Well, you've got some good suggestions here. Personally, neck knives aren't my thing. I tried. I just can't.

That said, there is one that stands out, that is not within your budget, but I'll add it to the list of other knives that people have offered "if you feel like going over budget." That is, the Spyderco ARK. It's an incredibly well thought out design. I don't like tiny knives as I find the shorter handles dont give me great leverage or control. The ARK is the exception to the rule. Also, for something that will live in the sweaty, wet environment that lives under your shirt, it's really nice to know that it cannot rust.

It's, light, small, thin, comfortable to hold, and can't rust no matter how much you sweat on it. The knife is definitely over your budget, but if you turn out to like your budget neck knife and eventually want to upgrade, the ARK is definitely worth a good look.

smaller the better, its knife jewelry....personally I rather use my keys to cut open a package. I don't find it practical to lift up my shirt, or coat to grab a mini blade and then do the same with 2 hands to put the knife away (especially winter time).

What about grabbing the cord and pulling it up out your shirts neck hole? Saves lifting shirt up and that's what I do.

I find smaller is better as well. I had a izulaII around my neck but that moved to my belt. Now the only one around my neck is a DCL. Minimalist seems to be similarly sized, maybe inch or so smaller.

... but it seems like the push daggar may not be a very good backup blade unless used specifically for self defense?

FWIW, I carry my fox push knife frequently, but not as a neck knife, mine has an awesome leather sheath set up for crossdraw carry that is easily concealable. Great little knife.

In any case, it does in fact make a surprisingly practical knife with modified grips.

I wouldn't want to try that with a double edged dagger mind you, just wanted to put it out there...
