best budget-priced Kershaw?

Kershaw doesn't even make a budget clip point folder the same size as the Tremor, most of their budget blades are not the blade length I want, I need at least a 4 inch clip point. I hope they make something like that in the future, but with no recurve....or they just need to bring back the Tremor.

they made 8 Emerson budget folders and not 1 of them is 4 inches, SMH.

Tremor is 3.75 inches -- for some reason, Kershaw doesn't seem to make anything beyond that, even with their Zero Tolerance line. What's up with that? Have they made any 4+ inches folders in the past? For a company that is so dedicated to hard use folders, you'd think they would offer some folders with 4" - 5" inch blades as well.

I have wondered the same thing. Where's my Kershaw megafolder? I'd like to see 5.5" blade. That's max length where I live.

This is strictly speculation, but considering that Kershaw already has their foot in the door at "mainstream" retail chains like Wal-mart, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to produce increasing numbers of the models or general styles that have sold best . . . or if Wal-mart represents enough volume that they (WM) influence what Kershaw produces. Menard's stores are starting to stock Kershaw as well, all Chinese models from what I saw. Maybe the shorter blades sell better among non-collectors.

It looks like my favorite budget Kershaw, the plain-edge RJI, is either discontinued or simply not as readily available as it used to be. I might pick up one more so that I have a spare for my spare.

Cold Steel seems to do well with the larger folders; and Kershaw doesn't have to go that far. A 4", or 4.5" folder would be cool.

Kershaw Echelon. Currently a lot cheaper than it used to be, and is now a deal. Take out the torsion bar and you have a smooth, solid, and very light knife with a crazy useful blade shape. It's the only knife that has unseated my Tuff Lite from the back pocket for any real amount of time. Very unique looking and ergonomic, too.

Also, a Zing, Groove, or RAM if you can find them at good prices. Kershawguy sells a tanto Zing at a stellar price and is an exceptional flipper.

As mentioned many times before the skyline is my pick. It is a little more than some of the imported kershaws, but I like the fact that it is US made and it has decent steel. It is just a no nonsense, useful knife that you can carry and use everyday

I've had an oso sweet for several years and I have been very pleased with its preformance. Used it for everything from working on cars to cleaning out my nails. I have a friend with a cyro and he loves it too. both are a good option in my opinion--espectially for the price.

Uh-oh. I think I've been bitten by the knife bug.

I was able to get both an OSO Sweet and a Leek, each for about $20 including shipping. I figure I can sell the one I like least.

In the meantime I'm keeping an eye out for the Clash, Skyline, and Tremor. Again, surely I can sell what I don't like.

These recommendations are so helpful! Any other words of wisdom?

Great combination. Live with them a little and then see if you want to start a collection. I have a combo Leek with D2 and Sandvik composite blade that is very nice, and a good flipper.

If you like the Leek you might enjoy the Shallot. It is a bigger brother. Watch the BF for sale forum and other auction sites. I think I paid under $30 for mine.

So many Kershaws, so little money!

Kershaw Chill is a great little manual flipper at under $20. It's really cool to be able to by an RJ Martin designed knife at that price point.

+1 to the Kershaw Chill- great lil manual flipper and really slim in the pocket. Also love my SS Zing, on a budget. Even more so since its lefty friendly.

Kershaw Zing, US made, if you can find it. The SS version is ok for a budget knife. They also have a G10 model out at some of the bigger sporting goods retailers. Just in time for Xmas.

I'd seriously consider a plain edge Volt II as an excellent all around choice. With a 3-1/4" blade and assisted opening, this R.J. Martin design is a good introduction to Kershaw's budget line being neither too short nor too long, neither too thin nor too thick. Its assisted opening via flipper is easy to deploy and reliable (in the 12 samples I've personally owned).

If you watch and wait, the Volt II can be had at the "Big River" for under $19.00 due to frequent price fluctuations. I grabbed a bunch at $19.40 apiece back in September and have been passing them along as gifts ever since. All recipients (new to both Kershaw and assisted opening knives) have been pleased and have reported no problems (other than "What torx bit do I need to remove the pocket clip?").

I'm just getting started in knives and plan on buying a few Kershaws to learn how to sharpen. Does Kershaw make any non-flipping, manual open knives? It seems like every one I see is a flipper. My workplace has some restrictions.

Kershaw Injection, Thistle, or the Blur.

Blur is assisted opening though, but not a flipper.

The Injection looked good to me. The Skyline is another one that seems to have good features for a low price. I was just going through the Kershaw lineup in search of a low priced gift and found a half dozen or more of their models that I really liked at a variety of low price points. The Blur is a good model at a fairly low price, but probably not budget-priced. The new Camber is another model that looks good for a price similar to the Blur.

Go to a big seller such as KW, pick Kershaw knives, sort by price from low to high, and start going through the lineup like I did.
