Best bushcraft knife at or under $50 - Review Picks

coaldigger - good choices
but I won't be doing any chopping tests.
I'm looking for smaller knives that would be good
in a combo situation with an Axe/Machete/Large Chopping Knife

1. Condor 8" mountian knife - $23.99 SMKW
2. Gerber Freeman drop point - $39.99 SMKW

LOL :p I'm just plain tired & ain't paying much attention as you can see :o Sorry, just count me out on this one :D

If the question is top four I'd like to see a review of: KaBar Warthog, CS Pendleton mini hunter, CS Belt Knife and Benchmade Rant. Just because I don't have experience with any of those.

I would pick the regular pilots survival over the one with the plastic handle.
Mine is a Ontario model and it is a near perfect sub 50$ bushcrafter.
1095 steel ,comfortable and durable handle with a pommel that can be hammered.
It also has a decent leather sheath with a stone for touching up the edge.
The sawback has a flat spot for batoning in exactly the right place. The saw is a lousy saw but a decent wood rasp.

The pilot survival blade seems pretty tough, my buddy has one and likes it.
So that, CS bushman, clipper and I guess the warthog, if it's anything like the bigger choppers ka-bar makes.
I have heard lots of good reviews on the grunt, doesn't pitdog like his a lot?

My choices from your list:

1. Buck 119 Special
2. KaBar USMC Mk 2
3. Mora Clipper
4. Buck Vanguard

I picked these, as there may be more of these in use out there than all the others combined.

I don't have a pciture but I took one on a recent camping trip, it split fire wood like any larger knife and kept its edge after two nights of batoning. It holds a really good edge and it is grooved allows you to keep hold of it in wet environments. For the price I don't see anything wrong with this knife, I give them to friends who don't have a good fixed blade.

Haha, I have one and love it, but I haven't been brave enough to try to baton with it yet. Glad to hear it held up! I use it mostly in the kitchen, since my mother doesn't believe in spending money on real kitchen knives. I can hardly wait until next Mother's Day...

Here's the count so far:

Mora Clipper 7
Benchmade Rant 4
mora 2000 3
SOG Fieldpup 3
Pilots survival knife 3
Black Jack Grunt 2
CS Bushman 2
AG Russell Deerhunter 2
Cold Steel Pendleton mini 2
Buck 119 2
Kabar Short USMC Black 1
Buck Nighthawk 1
Buck Pathfinder 1
Cold Steel Finn Bear 1
roach belly 1
Buck woodsman 1
Condor 8" mountian knife 1
Gerber Freeman drop point 1
Kershaw BearHunter II 1
CS Belt Knife 1
Buck Vanguard 1

Since i only brought up one blade before I would like to add the Buck pathfinder and the Buck vangaurd. I love seeing mora reviews, but i would like to see some different reviews for a change.

I am a huge fan of the Pathfinder! Its a great blade to field dress deer with. I would like to see how it performs at other task too.

My choices are based on the fact that I've considered buying them in the past and still might:
1. Buck Woodsman
2. Mora Clipper or 2000 (don't care which)
3. KaBar Short

If possible, would you consider adding either a Grohmann DH Russell #1 or #3? The CS Canadian Belt Knife doesn't do it for me. :)

I'd love to consider the Grohmann (any of them) but they are
over $50. not by much but I needed a cut off point.

Thanks for the input!
