Best Bushcraft nowdays

That's pretty cool... I wish I could. It's a funny thing about Kepharts... they are plain jane utilitarian in design and profile... but they just work--and do so exceptionally well.

I know what’ll happen if you do...

PSST! Go for it! :D
I had to go to the bank anyway which is near their store/shop. I now own it. :D

It is a bit thick however. But I don't own any 3V blades and wanted to try out the steel. I think with the bar steel thickness, it will make a good general woods blade.

Wow! Good for you! Yeah, the stoutness of that Kephart makes it ready for rough and tumble outdoor use. Enjoy and post pics!

A knife-alcoholic needs to stay the hell away from their store. A couple of guys were there buying the newly released single blade Northwoods Madison Barlow. THAT is one of my favorite knives and I have three of them. I was still tempted. They also had another of my favorites, the GEC #42 (two blade) as well as a #23. They also had a GEC Sunfish and possibly a Whaler there. Not sure about the Whaler.

To the OP, this Humphrey's Kephart would have made you a great general woods knife. Gone now.

Love my GEC #42 stag Missouri Trapper! You have great taste in knives.

Yeah, and it’s clear that I’m better off nowhere in the vicinity of that store! :D

Frankly for most woods tasks, the GEC #42 (Missouri Trapper) is mostly all you need, especially the two blade version. I have a single blade elephant ivory Northwoods Madison Barlow that is truly the only safe queen I own. I had bought a jigged bone version with it to use because I knew I wouldn't be able to bring myself to using the ivory one.

Well... now I own three Kepharts; the Humphreys 4.5" (3V), the 5" Kabar Becker BK-62 (1095) which is razor sharp now, and the Condor Kephart (1075) which I consider a clunker until I spend the time to grind the edge down thinner.

Kepharts are pretty basic handle wise and blade shape, but yes they just work very well.

I have three Bark River Kepharts the handles fit me perfect and the knives are just so handy overall. Blades 3V also but thin at .90 I really really really like them a lot.

My wife and I use them as our dinner knives also maybe a bit overkill, however it does the job well. LOL

I have my eye on the BK-62... would love to hear your thoughts, especially compared to the Humphrey, just for reference.

That is precisely my first thought about the Condor Kephart after I purchased it. I learned that it still needed a lot of edge work for kitchen duty however.

Great conversation and pics. Lon Humphrey makes a forged 3v Kephart that is pretty incredible, and his forged 52100 Bridger is no slouch either. I also recently reviewed a Fiddleback Forge Bullfrog Bowie; it did really well... I'll link the review below. My favorite of the bunch is the Kephart.

amazing knife! what do you think about AA Forge kephart?

One I don't have but am curious about is the Benchmade puukko. 3v and very low price looks good...

FYI DLT has the Humphrey Kephart in 3V. I don't think this knife is truly forged. I like the knife, but it might be a bit thick at over 1/8" bar steel. But it would certainly be very tough. It isn't as pointy as I would like (because of the grind and steel thickness), but I again think it would make a very dependable woods knife. Definitely wouldn't get it for skinning or hunting chores.
