Best Busse for a Marine?

I've got a guy who've I've been close to while he was going to HS. Great kid/guy. He's heading to Paris Isl in November. I'd love to get him a lifetime knife when he grajamarates. Since he's a Marine, he'll be off someplace unfriendly, I'm sure.

Suggestions?

First one that came to mind was a skinny ASH1. I want this to be his every-day get-out-of-s$#@-free knife. I'm thinking anything bigger than an ASH is probably too big.

Old or new. I've got enough inventory to dig from. But curious what people with some experience might offer for advice.

Thanks!

My brother in law is a Marine and he LOVES the Satin Jack Tac:):)

but I am thinking the skinny ASH would be good also:thumbup::thumbup:

CG ASH for heavy duty use and light chopping, Skinny ASH or SarSquatch would not be as tough but definitely a good choice as its lighter. Their is also the SJTAC and the BATAC. ( le if weight is not a issue)

I might go with the Skinny ASH like Amy suggested. Thinner and lighter than the CG ASH-1 proper, but still tough and not a small knife by any means. A BATAC might work, too. Hard to say without knowing what type of knives he likes.

A CG BATAC is something that I've recommended on these types of threads before, with others who have the level of experience that you're seeking advice from also suggesting it. It's got that saber grind and is thicker at the tip area for added penetration strength, a nice 'skull crusher' pommel, and has a smaller profile overall. As you know, it's a great knife well suited for many different tasks. If you want to hook him up, maybe you should show him all of the knives that you would choose one to give him from and ask him which one he likes most, on the sly? :) That's very cool of you to give him a Busse for duty!

Satin Jack TAC... Another great choice. :)

I just traded for a tan/tan, sarsquatch for my son, with a spec ops sheath, it's a great blade size and weight as well as a good blade design. He had a CGAsh1, and said it was a bit heavy on his LBE tac/vest a skinny Ash, would also be an incredible "service" knife, I would suggest the SFNO, but they are so expensive, and tactical colors would be even harder to find... I have an "embrace the suck" jack and the blade has a nice point, but some might consider it a little small for larger task. The USMC ontario OKC-3S the Marines issue is an incredible bayonet/fighting knife and is enough on its own for a great knife, actually replacing the old USMC Kabar. But yes, a nice Busse would be the pride of any Devil Dog's Kit.. right now, the Skinny is the best bet if you want it now, since Skunk is well stocked. get a Coyote Tan Spec ops sheath 6" and do the Oven thingy with it and it will be a great combination. If however he does not want it for a "combat" and rather a smaller utility style knives to attach by molle system to his armor carrier, a smaller design may be just the thing. two favorites in my son's unit were the Microtech Currahee ($175)and the Gerber LMFII,($80) I personally have a Currahee, and its a great knife with a good molle sheath.. A BATAC, "i like the BATACLE 1/4" thick better", is the perfect size for the sheath to go on the molle vest. IOnes smaller than a Batac, (MS, AD, GWs)may not be very useful for anything other than opening MRE boxes, cutting 550 cord and pealing apples. heck, get him two. One for his vest and a small one to use around base :-)

I would say either a Satin Jack Tac or even the BATAC would be a good one to give.
A Game Warden or Active Duty wouldn't be bad either.
I wish your friend well and thank him for his willingness to serve.

Personally, I think the BATAC CG is about as useful for an all-around knife as any I've seen. If it's not for use as a primary weapon, that's what I'd pick.

A close second would be a Skinny ASH.

I know, I'm just agreeing with what's already been said, but it's TRUE!!!:D

If I were to join up again, I would sure appreciate one of the old Satin Jacks. Those things are pretty sweet! From the more recent lineup, a SJTAC, BATAC or ASH-1 would be great all-rounders. But an Active-Duty, Cultellus or Game Warden might see more actual use, as they might be more realistically carried while on-duty.

i sent one of my knives in .323 to a Marine friend of mine going back to Iraq, all i know is u better get him a sturdy one, He lets all of his Bros try to break mine!!!!!!! i would like a really sharp Public Defender or a Ash 1 or Badger Attack, for sure. something Bullet Proof!!!:D

Just my uninformed opinion, but from what I've read, even the skinny ASH-1 is way too big. Weight is such an issue that I wouldn't get anything larger than a Satin Jack. The badger should also work great.

I'm an ex-marine who still does the reservist thing. The blade I chose is the HR.

Big enough to chop, thick enough to baton and pry stuff and light enough to fight with if I ever have to. Get asked to trade or sell it a lot by other marines. Had the SJTAC and it was too small and felt too light.

I just recently sent my Nuke Badger to a Marine being redeployed soon, and he LOVES it. Actually, I sent it straight to Rob Hummelbaugh at Survival Sheath Systems, and he made the SGM some different outfits:

He has told me he will try to get me pics of it being used in theater. I only hope this thing helps keep the SGM alive and healthy.

That Nuke Badger set is sweet! I would definately like that in combat!

Everything I heard was that unless he's an officer or a big knife is sanctioned by their unit/CO that smaller was better. Because it really scares natives and stands out.

But that was a discussion with an Army guy, and he was on convoy duty... so probably didnt get the same lattitude a combat unit (or marine) would.
