Best Busse Survival blade(s)?

When I think about a survival blade I think of a blade that is versatile. It should be able to be used for defense, baton, shave tinder, prepare game/food, etc. It also cannot be obnoxiously massive and heavy but at the same time has a good 6" +/- blade. When looking through Busse's models the Boss Jack seemed to be a good choice...but maybe there is something better?? The SAR's also look nice for a survival blade.

Anyway, please share your thoughts and as always pics are welcome. :)

Thanks

I think you were spot on with the Boss Jack. If you want something a bit larger I would suggest a NMSFNO.

I think a skinny ASH is an excellent choice. That knife can do anything and isn't too heavy. The SFNO is also a really nice all arounder but its a bit heavier than the ASH.

No worries man, it's like alphabet soup around here most of the time :D

If you're referring to NMSFNO, that would be the Nuclear Meltdown Special Forces Natural Outlaw. It's a fantastic large all-purpose knife. Here's a picture of one:

Pardon the ignorance but what does that stand for?

Thanks

I like the Hell Razor. It's 7" long but only .187" thick. This makes it long and heavy enough to chop if you need to, still pretty light for carrying around. It's light enough for smaller work, useable choil.
I have a NMSFNO, and it's an awesome knive and an amazing chopper. But at .25" thick it weighs 21 oz compared to 14 oz for the Hell Razor. I'll take it camping, but it's to heavy to lug around most of the time.
That being said, I don't have a Boss Jack and have heard good things, so if you can get one of those probably a good choice.

Eh, on second thought the Outlaw might be a bit bigger than you were looking for. So let's see...6" Busse survival blade...I'm gonna side with superman and vote for the skinny ASH.

The SURGE-7 will be the one...if it sees the light of day.
Take a SARGE...
Use screws instead of tube fasteners to easily access the hollow areas under the handle (fit a bit o' kit)
Satin finish with black or tan canvas micarta...or even hand shaped denim micarta (;))
and with notched jimping like on the SAR series (except the 5)
Survival Until Rescue Garth Edition knife! :D

Hope to see this, anyway. :) Until then, a SARGE-7, SAR6, BOSS Jack, ASH-1 .22" or .187" thick, SFNO or NMSFNO, Basic 6 (or Basic 8 when released), or DSF (& DSSF...same thing) would all do nicely if you had one when the situation unfolded as would the Team G, and the SRKW Taz Rat.
The DSF/DSSF, Team G, BOSS Jack, SRKW Taz Rat, or Sarge -7 might provide a bit more on the defense angle in my very non-expert opinion. :D

Another vote for the NMSFNO

Hell, even an ergo BM would be a good choice.

I think it all depends on what time of year and where it is you are going to be using your knife, for instance in a tropical or sub tropic climate I would want a basic 11 for quick crafting, chopping, and killing gators :D . however In most environments I would take something small I love my boss jack especially with my little make shift survival kit I fashioned from an esee pouch to my sheath. But I think in the end, hard use knives can't be beat in most cases (.22+ thickness) because as far as knives go if the gain of 12 or 15 ounces means a knife I can beat to hell and back I'll happily take the extra weight... Plus we don't want to wish for a lighter load, but broader shoulders right? ;)
pics cause evryone loves pics. Long live Busse knives!

I haven't handled nearly as many Bussekin as others here. Having said that my vote would be as follows:

1)Sarge 7
2)SFNO
3)Convex edge TG

BOSS Jack is also worth mentioning as an awesome all-arounder but I think it is significantly out chopped by the 3 on my list.

Good luck in your search! As far as "buying stuff" goes, hunting for that perfect outdoors/survival blade is a deeply satisfying, ridiculously fun search...enjoy :)

+ 1 on the Sarge 7, I really hope they come back out with the SE version. Other than that its the NMSFNO. If your looking for something smaller I also like the sarsquach, if thats too thin then ASH-1 Fat.

The Team Gemini as currently offered would have to be a sweet choice. It's like a CG SARGE7. ;)

Edit: forgot to say that is the SAR 6 SE with a Ganza TG. The SARGE 7 should be very similar in size to the TG, but it may vibrate more than the light brigade TG would when chopping.

Put a NMSFNO on your hip and a Strider SMF in your pocket ...The one will kill the Bear and the other will skin him.... Thats all you need ... :)

I think the terrain dictates the knife required to survive in it ... especially if you decide you can only carry one knife ... and how you need to carry this knife dictates "the jack of all trades best choice" for me ... I can carry a fairly large blade diagonially at the rear of my belt kit so it is out the way for running/sitting/general movement and very accessible in both a prone and free standing position. When you don't know where you might end up and what is needed from the knife I decided to go for a Basic 9 because it has a 9 inch blade enabling good chopping abiity and it can baton through thick trunks to get to dry "heart wood" which is critical for a fire in wet environments ... is long enough to work with snow in arctic/alpine environments ... is just about long enough to clear trail if needed in a Jungle ... and weighs a very light 14 oz's.

It has an asymetrical edge for easy sharpening and long edge retention and the elf choil works great with a fire steel as a striker ... and being light it can easily be choked up on by holding the spine for game/food prep.

I bought and compared a lot of knives before selecting on this one ... here are just "some" of the comparison knives ... the truth though is that a lot of these are nearly each as good as the other ... the NMSFNO, the FSH, the SAR 8, these are very close on performance ... it is on "weight" where the Basic's score well.

That NMSFNO looks mighty tempting! That and the largest SAR (NOT the SARGE).

In my pocket I carry a CS Rajah II. This thing will easily take off an arm. For a pocket knife it's a BEAST!!

Zero Tolerance Natural Outlaw Ergo. 6" blade just right. Light enough to wear so that it will be available when really needed. Not unnecessarily thick.

Sarsquatch a close second, and more available than the ZTNO-E.

LionSteel SR1 in pocket.. Built like Busse would build a folder.
