I finally got some time to go over our last shipment from shop 2 and here are some interesting finds.
top -- The kamis made three khukuris which they called British Army Service models but look at the specs on these knives. These are not BAS they are BIG BAS models. SNs 30, 39 & 42. Of course, all are signed by KGR, the kami who can write.
Overall length = 16 inches. Blade thickness 7/16+, width 2 inches. Weight 1 lb 10 ozs! This is heavier than an AK!
The kamis seem to have reverted to the bigger is better philosophy and I'm glad to see this. Plus, I rate the quality of these blades to be just about the same as Yvsa's 18 inch AK which he judged to be "ideal hardness" and rated as possibly the best knife in the world. The finish is excellent, nice scrollwork and inlay, the flat plate buttcap means no trouble with loose buttcaps plus you can work it to fit your hand if need be. The karda and chakma are of good size as can be seen and of good quality. Scabbard is very good quality. Overall rating is excellent.
Kami is selling these BAS(?) models for $100 and I think that is one of the best buys on the market.
Bottom is shop 2 "15" inch Sirupati which is actually almost 16 inches in length (bigger is better)with oversize chakma and standard karda. Overall rating -- excellent. It has the GRAY horn handle which is very popular and sometimes gets me into trouble.
SN 46. Price also $100.
Everybody knows the procedure. Call or email if interested. Comments always welcome and appreciated.
