What knife would be good for camping and backpacking and such? i would like a pretty big fixed blade with a good sheath. Also the knife would not break on me and is very strong. thanks

The Kabar-Becker Campanion is a great all-around camp knife.

The Buck 119 Special, available for $34 at Wally World, is great, as is their 650 Nighthawk. I used a regular old WWII KaBar USMC/USN/USA 'Fighting Knife' for years before I found out it wasn't a 'good' choice - it worked for me! Seriously, it depends on what you want to use it for - a Buck 110 Folding Hunter, $25 at W-W, is all I need nowadays - YMMV. All I mentioned are 'Made in the USA'.

See if you can find a Rat Cutlery Knife for that price or a Benchmade fixed Griptilian for a little more than 70

I would keep my eye on the for sale forums.
There have been some Bark Rivers in the $80 range if you want to stretch your budget a little.
There have also been some Beckers and RAT's in your price range.
If you are interested in the Becker Companion you can find some reviews Here.
Good luck.

And there's still nothing wrong with the old, reliable Buck Vanguard either.

I know Cold steel leaves a bad taste for some, but the new GI Tanto would do the job as a camp knive. built like a car bumper from the past and cost is less than 40 on ebay.....

$9.97 + shipping.

Pretty tough for 10 bucks. :D

+1 on this knife. I have battoned a half ton of wood with this beast and she is still asking for more.

But if you are like some people here and need a "brand name" to feel warm and cozy and night, the Gerber LMF II is a great camping blade (2 of my Army buddies are in Iraq with one, thanks to me) and can be found for just over 70 bucks online. The sheath is perfect and the steel is strong.

But for 70 bucks, I would say get 4 or 5 of the CTD Rough Use Knives!!!

Or, this Ontario SP-6 would also be a great one.

I love this knife... I paid $32 for it!?

I'll have to give a nod to the Kershaw Outcast as well. In my opinion the sheath alone would cost $40 or $50 to have made. Nice knife for a low price.
