Best Camp Fixed blade $70 or below

The Buck 119 Special, available for $34 at Wally World, is great, as is their 650 Nighthawk. I used a regular old WWII KaBar USMC/USN/USA 'Fighting Knife' for years before I found out it wasn't a 'good' choice - it worked for me! Seriously, it depends on what you want to use it for - a Buck 110 Folding Hunter, $25 at W-W, is all I need nowadays - YMMV. All I mentioned are 'Made in the USA'.

 +1 on the recommendations for the Buck 119 or the Nighthawk, but I must respectfully disagree on the Buck 110. Since he seems to place a lot of emphasis on strength and unbreakability I would hesitate to recommend a folder.

A fixed blade is almost always stronger that a folder at the equivalent price point.

how big of a knife are we talking here?

are you looking for a camp knife to do general chores with such as clearing and splitting fire wood? or are you looking for something to do finer tasks with?

for a general purpose large camp knife i'd grab the outcast, i have one and it chops quite well for the price, i removed the coating on mine and convexed the edge.

if your looking for a 5 inch and under camp knife to do finer tasks with i suggest you take a look at the cold steel master hunter or moras. the clipper is a very comfortable knife and carves very nicely.

if your looking for something in between, which is generally what i carry around camp, i would suggest looking at a blade in the range of 7 inches. this way you are able to do some chopping as well has have some more control on the blade for finer tasks. but this also depends on your skill and ability to handle a large knife for doing smaller tasks.

if this is the case i would suggest getting a bk-7.

you can pick it up at newgraham with a smaller "neck" style knife for below 70.

personally i carry a golok with a mikro canadian II for doing large and small tasks. if i'm wanting only one knife on my belt it'll be my bravo-2.

good luck on your search for a camp knife.

If you can wait about a month, Condor is coming out with a new line of carbon steel blades that look like a great buy.
Take a look at this thread.

+1 here is a site that has it for less then $70 shipped.

No no no no no no! Do NOT order anything from Botach Tactical!! They are horrible. If you doubt, then do a BF search and see what comes up. I have had some bad experiences with them in the past, subverted by their low prices. So have many others I have talked to. DON'T DO IT. And FWIW, Ka-bar has always worked for me in the past. Their Heavy Bowie (short or long, I have the long) is a great blade.
