Best Camp Knife? Ka-Bar USMC or Swamp Rat- 1095 vs SR-101

I'd get the Rat (if cost wasn't an issue, I'd go for Busse and maybe Ranger or Fehrman). I used Ka-Bar long time ago and the thing bent upward during chopping/splitting. The tang is thin and weak. More of a fighter than a camp knife.

No one is knocking the Camp Tramp. It's a great knife but it's not one that I would recommend only because I feel it's the type of knife you buy because you want it, not because a $50 isn't good enough.

There are lots of $50 knives that make great camp knives and yes, the Kabar is one of them.

Kabars a nice knives, used them many times. The camp tramp is the best all round knife I have ever owned. I use it for everything from making meals in the kitchen to cutting down a 6" wide tree and spliting logs and love it!!! Can't beat them.

Some other knives that come close to the CT are the Ranger RD 7, the Ontario RAT7 and the BK&T CU 7. Good luck, with what ever you get and get what suits you..

I own 6 Ka-Bar knives, 2 of them are the USMC modles and I can say with conviction that I'd trust my life to that knife and have on several ocasions.
However I don't cary it as my primary blade either.I cary it as my back-up blade to something heavier. The Ka-Bar stabs, slices and ccts very well.
That said I've never held or used a camp trap so I can't say one way or another how well it performs.I'd suggest trying out each knife it thats an option.See witch one fits your needs best.
