Ok here it is, basically im a RAT virgin, im looking to buy my first RAT knife and cant wait. I need a knife as a general camping knife. i do a lot of backpacking and would like to have a decent knife to accompany me aside from my EDC folder. I also wouldn't mind having a knife that would make a decent hunting knife for whitetail. I've decided i NEED a RAT knife, but which one im not sure. I think i've narrowed it down to two choices, either the HEST knife, or the RC-4 with the orange g-10 handles. I love the HEST features and i think it looks quite useful, however i also love the rc-4, and the rc-4 may have a better advantage being bigger. any personal experience with either would be great, i hope to order mine asap!

Of the two, I like the RC-4. I don't like the prybar/scraper end on the HEST. A friend of mine cut his thigh with one while doing some bushcraft work. Granted, you could chalk it up to him not be careful enough but I can see situations where that could happen. I like the classic design of the rc-4. Plus the orange g10 looks sweet. Just my 0.02 . I love my RC-4.

I personally chose the RC-4, and I am VERY happy with the decision!!

Go for the RC-4, you won't be disappointed!

For me, that knife is just hard to put down, just feels right in the hand.

For hunting and camping chores combined, you cannot go wrong with the RC-4 if you only want 1 knife. Get a RC-3 for hunting and a RC-6 for camp chores if you really want the best of both worlds.

awesome, thanks for the help, im thinking im leaning for the rc-4, although i may have to throw in an izula as well!

I would go for the RC-4. I've had mine for a while and thick it's a great knife. If you get one you'll be more than happy with it.

The RC-4 is a perfect all around camp knife.

Definitely the right way to go. You want something around 4 inches for th heavy work, but nice to have a small knife like the Izula, for detail.
