best carbon mora knife

Ragweed Forge carries both laminated and non laminated Mora high carbon blades. Fit your own handle. You might also consider Helle's Viking model in laminated high carbon steel.

I you're going down the DIY route I'd also recommend (and personally prefer) a Laurin blade in 80CrV2.

Straight up Mora: Bushcraft Black - a few bucks more than a Companion or Robust, but at least one league up.

I won't vote for a classic! I don't like the barrel shape! Even though I like the companion, I find that everything is plastic, too bad the blade is not stainless steel.(plastic is stable in wet conditions so is the stainless) So since I like leather and wood my solution was to buy a blade online and mount it myself on a pukko style handle
Most Companions are stainless, IIRC. The HD models are available as carbon or stainless.

I have a Frosts Mora I got about 20-25 years ago with a laminated blade...that middle layer of steel is rock-hard and really cuts through a deer sternum like butter.

I wouldn't want to drop it on concrete, though (and thankfully, I haven't yet)...

The middle layer is 0-1 steel hardened to ~60Rc.
You might be surprised at how durable those blades are.

You are all totally wrong - correct answer is Mora Pathfinder.

I would post pics, but, well, you know……..

The basic MG Companion is the best value by far- it's filling the role the Clipper used to IMO. I keep meaning to pick up a new Classic but haven't yet- they look nice but seem a little expensive for a Mora. I don't like the large guards on the 511 and Bushcraft, and found the 510 handle kinda short (still hoping to run across a 511 some day regardless).

The current product line doesn't have much (any?) laminated steel, and Triflex disappeared years ago- so my vote's a basic Companion for a starter, Bushcraft or Garberg if you like Scandi grinds already and can handle the knives before you buy.

How so? It is pretty expensive (for a Mora). What justifies the price?

Well, it all depends on when you apply relative or absolute.

Relatively speaking, the BB costs almost twice as much as the Companion (what I paid for both). Twice is a lot in that regard.

In absolute terms, the BB was only about $15 more expensive than the Companion. On my purchasing scale that's next to nothing.

The BB is sturdier (whether needed or not) and exudes a sense of quality manufacturing that the Companion simply does not come close to. Well worth 15 bucks to me.

(Always watch out for where one metric is used over the other: For example, some people will whine and moan over "x BILLION TONS of CO2" created somewhere....what they will never say is "oh, that's only 0.000x % of what's already there of a trace gas anyway." Something wholly insignificant is made to sound like the end of the Earth.)
