I was wondering if anyone had a thought of what the best Cold Steel knife was in general. Anyone have a clue?

Kudu. You can buy a new one for half an hours pay so you can mess it up as much as the task at hand requires.

But I suppose that's not what you want to know, right?

Espada extra large. Can you imagine whipping that thing out of your pocket with the auto-open flipper notch when someone needs help opening a package? Make sure to have a wild look in your eyes!

^_^ That made me laugh.

Best at what?

The best EDC, according to what I hear around here, would be the AK47/mini AK47, or the Lawman.

The best flipper is the Ti-lite.

The best self defense knife is probably the Safe Maker.

The best fighting knife is probably the Black Bear (10 inch double edged fighting knife. What more can you want?)

The best over-the-top knife is the Espada XL. The thing is a pocket sized sword.

The best chopper is the Gurka Kukri.

The best beater knife is probably the Pendleton Lite. Super cheap, but very nice.

The list goes on...

My personal favorite is the Pendleton Lite. Cheap enough that I don't worry about it, tough enough that I don't need to worry about it, heat treatment is spot on so it holds a good edge, and it's the perfect size for my personal fixed blade EDC.

Original Master Tanto with brass fittings.
It is THE Cold Steel knife.:)

I really like their Recon series in all of its flavors, blade styles and regular or mini. Very good value knives in the Recon's, but my all purpose favorite has to be the American Lawman. That knife takes a beating and comes back for more, not the best steel obviously but Aus8 is okay with me. The Lawman to me is one of those that is not too big, not too small, not too heavy and not too light IMO....add the fact that it can be had for about 50 bucks.

Their flagship to me is still the Trailmaster in San Mai 3. It is an awesome fixed blade. My favourite CS folder would be the current Recon 1, with the American Lawman a close second.

I was just looking at the Trailmaster earlier. Have you used one yet? And also, it seems that everyone really likes the Recon 1. I'll have to check that out.

The recon1 and the voyager series seem to be the most popular, and by most accounts, both are pretty well built for the money, but in my opinion you're better off looking at spyderco or kershaw for edc knives. CS makes some good hard use knives that make great around the house/yard beater knives, but in my opinion, most of their designs are a bit aggressive and clunky for edc. That an the fact that I dont particularly like aus-8 are the reasons I typically stay away from Cold Steel. If I had to Cary one on a regular basis though it would be a recon1 (probably the mini).
