BEST Combat/Utility fixed Blade???

The blade grinds (in my opinion) do need to be thinned out on the CS models. After I'm done with them, they are probably 3/8 to 1/4 of an inch wide. I've done the same to my Busses, Swamp Rats, Queens, Kabars, etc. I like to have around a 25 deg (total) edge at most. On smaller blades, I've gone as low as 15, but you really have to be careful here. You give up some durability, but get an awesome edge that is much easier to maintain. Once this is done, they slice as good as any. No matter what things are said about CS (and they might be true), Carbon V is a great steel for edge holding.

Having said all that, if you decide to go with Swamp Rat, you won't go wrong. It's edge holding is just as good, and it steels back better. At least mine do. While it's not as thick, I do believe it's plenty strong for almost any application. The Swamp Rats also slice well. My Camp Tramp will easily push cut newspaper as thin as you please. I have a Bandicoot that I thinned out as stated above, and it out slices even my Moras. No joke. My current favorite carry knife. It's one of those that you gotta use to love...

Good luck with your choice, half the fun is the deciding!

What I'd like to know is what in you guys opinion is the BEST 7in combat/utility fixed blade out there today, period. I own BK 7 and Ka-Bar, and there are several that I think LOOK good but have no experience with, I'd especially like to hear comments on the SOG Bowie, is it worth that much??? (I really like Leather handled knives:)) Also how about the TOPS Moccasin Ranger, Chris Reeve Green Beret and Project I and II, Busse Natural Outlaw, and Swamp Rat Rattweiler, or any others I've left out. Pretty much which one is the best and why????
The best combat knife is the one you have when you need it. Best is a relative term. How about best for the price? The camillus cqb black ops was just on sale for $30. That is an exceptional combat knife at that price. What about knives like the Reeve 1 piece? It is a solid no BS knife but it's heavy. It all depends on the compromises you are willing to make. The Becker and Kabar are great knives. They are modestly priced so every soldier can afford them, They are tough work proven knives. Neither is too heavy or cumberson. They have simple straight forward sheaths. Neither will win any beauty contests but that's not what you buy a combat knife for.

My vote goes to the Brend Model 2. If the one from Brend is too expensive then the Branton/Brend Model 2 is a great choice for a lot less money. The photo below is of the Branton/Brend and is taken from rehobothcustomknives.com
