Hi guys, it's obvious I'm new here. I just recently got interested in knives, folding ones at this point. I've been a avid gun owner for decades and my guess is it will be the same for knives.

So, actually I got interested in knives when I went to a gun@knife show and I saw a seller that had at least 15-8 foot tables full of every kind of knife.

I have seen some knives I like but have little idea if they are worth what they are asking for them.

Could some give me a idea of 3/4 names of the best knife Mfg's out there that make quality knives around $100. I've seen CRKT, BOKER, BUCK, BENCHMADE and maybe a few more, I can't think of at the moment, that have knives that I like, although Bench Made seems to be a bit more expensive.

ZT, Benchmade and Syderco are great places to start. get one of each, branch out and learn what you like.

Check out the Manufacturer's Forum page here and all the companies listed there. Great place to start. There are some others not listed like ZT/Kershaw but it hits most of the popular ones.

Gerber still makes some good knives in America, case makes good knives, queen makes a good knife, GEC is good, Mora knife are excellent and very affordable, opinel knife usually come highly recommend, and you can never go wrong with any knife made by Victorinox.

I'm kinda with Amoo.
Handle a few to see what you like..what feels good in the hand..what type of opening mech/locking mech you like.
BM griptilian is a nice beginner "better quality" knife.

Spydie benchmade and zt are the bigdogs can't go wrong.

Less popular but solid choices include kizer, fox, SOME CRKT and SOME boker.

Kershaw is a badass budget line also.

PS. Stay far away from this forum, the knife addiction is serious and just a bunch of enablers hang out here :D

I'd say the big four in modern folders right now would be Spyderco (my personal favorite). Benchmade, kershaw/Zt, and cold steel.

I would say avoid crkt and bokers that are made in China. lots of better knives for the money, Kershaw USA lineup for one is excellent.
Spydercos lineup is mostly excellent, if you don't think you'd like Spyderco get one, it will change your mind. you can find the most popular Spyderco, a pm2 (paramilitary 2) in the exchange for give or take 100 depending on various versions of it. lots of other good models too.

avoid any quartermaster, they are a scam. you can do a search to find out more.

if you like flippers check out a used ZT in the exchange or save up a bit more for your fav design (if you like the designs).

benchmades use good materials and have really nice opening and closing mechanism but spotty at best fit and finish for the money. it most likely will have blade play, uneven blade grind and non centered blade guaranteed. if you can get one cheap you may just like it regardless of any of that. you can send it in to possibly fix some of that.

So what kind of knife tickles your fancy?
Traditional, tactical, Made in USA, fantasy, exotic wood ... ect.

Sent via telegraph with the same fingers I use to sip whiskey.

Thanks to all! a lot of good names there. I'm going to stick to folders for now, I like them. It's surprising how many knives are out there. It's going to be a good time searching. I did see a Kizer I like so far. Hopefully it's a decent knife.

Stonproject. isn't it true the forums really get one to be compulsive, I do it with gun forums, golf forums, watch forums and I'm sure I'll do it on this forum but what the heck that's what their for HUH ;)

Go to a local store with knives in stcok and handle some models/brands with different lock types to see what suits you the most.....

Kizer does make a good knife, and you get a lot of knife for your money, but from a standpoint of service after the sale they're a notch below some other manufacturers. Kizer does have a Stateside service center but it's more for replacement parts rather than repair.

The best companies in terms of service and support are KAI (Kershaw/ZT) and Benchmade. They fix or repair any knife with practically no questions asked.

The best company in terms of being part of the community is Spyderco. Being able to chat about the design features of a knife with the owner of the company is an incredible experience.

The best company in terms of who makes the best knives is totally a matter of personal opinion and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.

Well shit. Just got into knives end of last year with a Kershaw leek. Ditched that when the bar inside it broke in half. Bought myself a CRKT deviation and swindle after that, now looking to buy a Boker kwaiken. What you say is no joke lol.

Cash71, I'm new to the forums as well but did you say golf forums???

Avid golfer before this knife interest (compulsion) began. I started with a cold steel knife but quickly jumped on the Benchmade bandwagon after handling a few different models. Posted my interest on a certain model and literally got flooded with links to awesome deals. Great people around here from what I observed... Just bad for your wallet as you will be spending some money.

My advice, as it was given to me... Get the ones that are made well. You'll know when you hold them. Have fun with it... I'm still on the ride...

On the older kizers the flipping action isn't great but they're incredible knives. I have a ti framelock with s35vn steel I got for under $100. Absolute beat value on the market.

This forum has led me to increse my budget tremendously.I remember when I bought a kershaw leekmany years ago and thought it was really expensive. Well, through a combination of lust and enabling (thanks a lot BF) I started hitting the $400 mark on balisongs.

Hopefully it doesn't get worse :D

Good luck
