M-18s to be great knives. Wish they still made 'em. In my opinion, the M-21 was a step in the wrong direction (I miss the G-10 inlays).

They do have a model with G-10 out now. That's the next on my CRKT list.

I'd have to say the BEST CRKT I've seen, owned, etc., has to be the S2 (4-incher). Although I've really liked the M21-04, I just haven't trusted the heat treat of their steels lately (see thread on CRKT hardness issue). The S2 has an ATS-34 blade and a beautiful titanium framelock handle. My own experience with the edge retention is that it's exceptional. Very UNDERRATED knife in my own opinion.

 I agree. This is the number 1 CRKT IMHO... The CRKT Viele Wasp (Model 8002) would be my number 2 CRKT.

I've had a S2 in my EDC rotation for two or three years and it still looks like it did the day I bought it. I can't say enough good about that one. Titanium framelock with coated ATS-34 ... What's not to like? Guys used to call this model the poor man's Sebbie ... Even though I mostly carry Spyderco, this CRKT is one I reach for and carry frequently.

I don't suppose that S2 is available anymore, is it?

Your best bet is to watch the exchange as they pop up on occasion.

To all the fans of S-2, I'm with ya. I have a small, medium and large S-2 and they are all great knives. They are the only CRKT knives I've kept.

I found one!
The larger of the two more recently made (originally medium) 2.75'' blade, plain edge, too!
$65.. Once I've gotten it & everything went smoothly with the online retailer, I'll post a link for those interested.

Why on earth CRKT stopped making the S-2 is beyond me. It was by far the best knife they've ever made.

I do have an M-21 that I carry on occasion though.

S2 and full size Apache. The Apache II is nice too and I carry that at work alot. Great steel, very nice build quality, and handle ego's aren't bad at all. keepem sharp

Bar none, IMO it's the special edition Viele model. smooth like a custom, rounded corners. Didn't sell too well for some reason but easily custom quality. It was made in Switzerland, and I have a strong feeling that it was outsourced to Klozli for manufacturing. It just has that feel.

My favorite CRKT is the S-2. I got my S-2 for $75 on fleabay. I was looking for premium blade steel held by a titanium framelock handle. The S-2 fit the bill w/o destroying my budget. I am also fond of my mini Kasper fighting folder.

I only have one CRKT and that is the Pharaoh.

It's a lovely knife and I think it's unique shape really makes it different.

On their website say they say:
" ... It might just be the most remarkable folder we have ever built."

I agree.

My all time favourive - Crawford/Kasper folder ZYTEL model. Heavyweight fighting champion :)
Wild weasel - AO, 154cm and it is also designed by crawford and kasper.

You are right on!

a while back SMKW did a sale on these for 25 bucks a piece! I got two but gave them away as gifts. It is nice to know that they went to someone who would love and use them ALOT!

This is a really good post so hopefully CRKT can look at where they were and now where they are. I humbly think CRKT has been going the wrong direction. My favorite all time CRKT is the only one I have left my SE 8012 Wasp. This knife and my Spyderco Para Military is about as good as it gets in a production knife to me. I also greatly like AUS-118. I feel sorry for you steel junkies that haven't tried this premium steel! The Wasp is also a big miss if you collect Viele designs and don't have this one!

For a large blade, I use a Hissatsu folder with out burst, once it's worked with, took me all of an hour, it's fast opening and has a good lockup. For a smaller blade I use a Koji Hara with out burst, once again, fast good blade, and lockup, CRKT seems to be following the same path as other commercial blades, tiny thin liner locks, are they making up for it with "locks" and "auto locks" I dislike those, I've some early blades with liner lock nearly as thick as the blade, and no secondary lock system, I guess cost cutting..G.

Ars sine scientia nihil est..
