In light of Jerry's invitation to make suggestions on the Busse Woodcraft knife, which I'm sure will be ready in two weeks;), I started to wonder what everyone thought the best current Busse for the task was.

I don't have anything smaller than a BATAC, so I'm just guessing, but what would be the best -- ABA, Active Duty, Game Warden (if so, which) ... ?

ABA.

I honestly think the Game Warden is the best. It has a great shape and has the smallest choil allowing you to actually hold the handle and get close to the edge.

ABA all the way...great for cleaning trout, field dressing deer, etc. Wish they would get back to making practical users for more every day purposes. Seems the current production is either a little too small (GW), a little too big (BA), way too big (FBM), or goofy (Scotch tape dispensor (?)).....

On the other hand, the Howling Rat and Yardkeeper are perfect for the above uses as well....If only we could get a HR or YK in INFI we would have the perfect set-up!

ABA. But I don't have one, so *my* best Busse bushcraft knife is my BAIII.

Leaner Meaner is nice as well, but then I have larger sandwich grabbers than some.

It also occurred to me that the original Satin Jack might be just the ticket...Big enough to do large stuff and small enough to actually carry.

I agree with Brian, my favorites have pretty much been a Leaner Meaner and and old school Satin Jack, hmmm, and they're currently at Okuden for pants hmmmm, :D.

Although an ABA or DABA is hard to beat.

There are good reasons so many popular and long lived hunters are similar to the ABA. I only wish I had discovered Infi before they were being hoarded:grumpy:. That said, in the thread about nessie design input, I suggested if it gets very far from a HRLM it will loose versatility. My grail is a nude Infi HRLM (I don't chop with a knife) so the SR101 and a Trap will have to do. The Ratchet is my belt chopper. The 3 of them make a pleasing set (I like sets!), but almost as good as Infi is still almost...:D Regards, ss.

Interesting story on my knife #15 pictured above.

When it was offered, I ordered only one LE and one desert ABA, and called Busse Combat and asked for the butt grind on the LE. When the knives were shipped, #95 and a desert ABA came. I called Busse about the butt grind, Jerry answered and said it was ready, but they had a devil of a time figuring out how to grind a skull crusher on it!
Someone had apparently misunderstood my request, so #15 originally had a skull crusher! They reground it and sent it to me, and I arranged to pay for #95 and keep it also. When #15 came it had another desert ABA with it, so I called and arranged to pay for that one also. It was raining ABA's!:D

In retrospect, I should have let them ship #15 with the skull crusher, and sent #95 back for the butt grind. #15 would then have been truly one of a kind.

Speaking of Bushcraft, does anyone other than me think that an Anorexic BATac would be fantastic?

I'd like to see one in double cut or satin.

MikeH, is it going to be too hot to hunt dove this year? I'm thinking I may need a camelback AND a 10-gallon cooler of water.

Here in AZ it will be over 100 F by 10AM. Dove hunting stops at noon so the survivors can get a drink at the scarce water holes.:) Regards, ss.
