If you could pick one custom to carry for your daily carry piece what would it be? I have wanted an Emerson custom ever since I became interested (obcessed) with knives in the last 10-12 years. I'm thinking of selling my collection and buying one on the secondary market. I would only be able to afford one, but would most likely use it as a carry knife. I was fortunate enough to get my order in for a CQC 6 and 8, but am hoping to get my hands on one within the next year, rather than have to wait for the next 3 years hoping that they will get made (Fingers crossed and knocking on wood that they will

). I'm leaning towards the 8 but just thought that I would ask what actual owners of Ernies custom's have to say about them, since I have not had the good fortune to have ever seen one in person. Thanks in advance for the replies, this is just a thought, and I'm not sure yet if this is the road that I want to take to get a custom Emerson yet.

Out of the different customs i have had, the CQC6 still holds the spot in my heart.

Hey BH,
Both of the Customs your contemplating are excellent. Both of them can perform superbly for just about any application you need regarding a Folding knife.
It's really personal preferance and combative style you feel comfortable w/ that will guide you on your personal journey.
Be assured that they both have the ability to perform to your satisfaction for any number of utilitarium needs.
I have both and lean towards the CQC 8 for longer range combatives. I also like the deep finger groove for positional control and indexing on the handles. A feature not on the CQC 6. Hope that helps.
IMHO

Thanks Tattoo and Tamishigiri,

The only Tanto's that I really like are Emerson's. I do like the 4" blade of the 8 over the 3.5" of the 6. Although 1 day I will hopefully have both, the 8 has always appealed to me. I would really like to get one with a wave like Ross T. but when I asked about adding the feature to my order, I was told that they won't do it. What I need to start doing is raise the cast for the purchase, which will take awhile, and hopefully within a year, I'll have a custom emerson

The only custom Emerson I have is a 6 but that is good enough for me until my ES1-M comes thru with the wave which is my favorite! You can always purchase a Commander or CQC-7 production until your custom arrives.

I think that I'm going to get a commander soon. I've got a SOCFK, and love it. I only wish that It was plain edge. I do like the wave.

I really like all of mine, but after attending several edged weapon courses lately, I would have to say go with something in the Commander variety. Either a pre production Commander, or the ultimate folder in my book-the ES-1M. I have preferences for each depending on carry. In front appendix, I like the CQC8, and carried one there for several years. If you like pocket carry, then the waved blades are the way to go. If you tend to like reverse grip techniques, then the CQC-5 or 6 are good choices.

What is the correct designation for the custom Commander? The catalog I have lists it as the ES1-M but there are many other arrangements of the four alpanumerics.

Budrichard,
The way Ernie explained it to me was as follows:
ES represents Emerson SEAL, 1 = Model one
-M = Military Version.

The large Civilian designate was ES1-C for Civilian which was w/o the WAVE.
Hope that helps

The Commander came at a later date and the knife's demensions were downsized.
