Best Custom under $250

In response to a response(man that's confusing) to the thread about Dick Atkinson, who would you suggest as some of the best custom makers of folders under $250? Looking to make the plunge from factory to custom, but poor.

One person I like, you don't hear much about him but I have looked at his work very nice. I don't own anything of his yet but I will. He has won best I think art folder at I don't remember which show. But he is good. O his name is Charles A. West
If anybody can remember more please help me remember. I will see if I can find it in my books. there was something on him in one of the knife mag, notto long ago.
 
Charles A. West is listed in Knives 99 he is a full time maker who sold his first knife in 1963. If you need to get in touch with him let me know. I have not seen any of his work, but you have me interested. Aaron, try to go to a knife show in your area you will most likely see a few to decide from.

I haven't got anything from him yet but I know where he lives, It is about 20miles from me. Not to bad

I have had two West folders. I now presently have one. I really do not like ats which is generally what he uses but somehow he manages to produce blades that hold an edge better than any other knife I have ever had in that material. In fact my favourite smaller knife was a West that I used to have. I should have kept that one. I see him at the Badger knife show in Janesville Wisconsin.

ps I was at school during the Baltimore show. Damn
 
He has a couple of knives in "knives98" just got "knives99" so I don't know about it, i will check it.
 
C.A. West Knives are excellent. I really like his gun blued damascus. He won best Art Knife at the Little Rock Custom Knife Show- (pictured in a recent Knives Illustrated.) His knives are an excellent value for the quality and workmanship. His mark is simply "C.A. West".
