Best day pack - lightweight and size recommendation

Used the Osprey Daylite on our trip and it worked perfect for my needs. Lightweight and held just enough stuff for our daily journeys.
This is a useful thread for me because I'm looking for a good day hike pack too. Nothing overboard in size or weight and not tactical looking. I'm 6'2" and 225 lb with large shoulders and chest so we may be of similar size but am interested in hearing your experience with the Daylite. The hardest thing I find when using backpacks is that they're never comfortable on my shoulders. Also curious to know if there's plenty of adjustment in the chest strap.

Also wondering if there's enough "small" storage compartments for things like batteries, wallet, keys, small medical kits, etc. without having to lump it all in the main compartment I guess.

I like the Osprey day packs as well. Having a large chest & shoulders as well I have had issues finding day packs that fit well. Osprey has both gender specific and M/L sizing options on many of their packs, something that a lot of makers only offer on larger backpacks. I don't believe that Daylight pack has that option but I know the Manta series does.

Sounds good. I took a chance on the Daylite ordering one for myself and the wife. I hope to find use in this not only on day hikes, but as an EDC bag as well. I have a nice leather laptop bag that I carry most every day, but it can be cumbersome, uncomfortable with just a single strap, and have never been motivated to make a true EDC bag out of it.

Got them in yesterday and tried it on. Not a bad little pack. I could see it being a good little EDC/gym bag for me. Definitely day hike worthy, just need to get a bladder. Been a long time since I've worn a backpack, and I guess I thought the chest strap would be lower, but it was almost a neck strap on me, nearly to my collarbone. It'll probably be different once I actually put stuff in it, but will be a little while before I find out because I had to put them up and hide them for another couple weeks as my wife's will be part of her birthday gifts.

You should be able to slide the sternum strap down on the little fabric rail things. The Osprey's I've had have always seemed a bit short there though and I'm a pretty average 40" chest, even with the pack loaded with everything snugged up they were kinda up there.

Ha didn't even look to see if they could be slid down. I was kinda in a hurry trying it on yesterday but will remember that when I'm able to actually use it. Thanks for the tip. [emoji106]

The sternum strap does not slide on my version of the Osprey Daylite. I'm ok with where it sits on me.

Surplus ALICE back pack? They're cheap, durable, not too big and comfortable to wear.
