Best Daypack?

kinzli: Man, another cool-looking pack! I'm glad I resurrected this thread. I like a few of the ideas on that Jansport. The pockets on the hip belt are a nice touch, among a number of nice touches on that pack. Let us know how you like it! Does it have a sternum strap, or will you need to get one after-market?

(edit) Oops, nevermind, I see it clear as day in the pic. Thanks for the heads-up.

(another edit) About the only thing that it doesn't seem to have, and that I require for a daypack, is removeable waist straps -- at least half the time, I don't have a big enough load to make waist straps anything but a nuisance.

Anyone use any of the Camel-Bak daypacks?
I bought my father one for a trip he took this summer, but haven't questioned him about the pack.
The one I bought him was a "Peak Bagger" at ~$90.
Hydration system (naturally), easy access to the main bag, a separate large pocket over the main bag with smaller zippered pockets inside each, large mesh pockets on each side, and a daisy chain down the center on the outside of the pack-that's all from memory, so I may have missed some things. Some of the other models had more in the way of organizer pockets sans daisy chain, and might have been better choices, had I spent more time examining them.

I liked the Camelback daypacks from a feature point of view. However, they were nowhere near as comfortable as some of the other packs I looked at, like the Arc'Teryx Volt I ended up with. However, pack fit is a completely subjective thing; the Camelback packs might fit other people perfectly. The thing I learned about packs is, you want to try multiple packs on at the same time. If I had just tried the Camelback pack on by itself, it would have seemed comfortable enough. It's only when I walked down the aisle to try on other packs that it became apparent that there were better choices for me.

Hydration packs are very subjective. Both Hydrastorm and Camelbak offer bare bones carriers all the way up to 3-day packs. I've owned both and have enjoyed both. I would also advise, try as many different ones on as you can, loaded with weight. Nobody has a back and shoulders like you, so find what works for you.

Anyone tried an Osprey Skimmer? Saw a great deal on one and was looking for opinions.

If you considring a hydration pack then check out Eagles new RHP line.
I got the 3 pocket version a little over a month ago and I love it.

The best daypack that I have ever had is the Osprey Eclipse 36. The design lets you carry very little or quite a bit very easily and comfortably. It cinches over it's load and creates it's own frame along with the back stiffner. the harness and belt are very adjustable too. It's a keeper.

Last week I got my Eagle Becker Patrol Pack (Thanks Brad at LightFighter.com)

Man, I've carried a lot of knapsacks over the years, but this thing blows them ALL away, and it's comfortable too (at least for me - Your mileage my vary)

It's hydration ready, has LOTS of outside pockets (BIG ones too), lots of attachment points for whatever oversized gear you have (Including slots behind the pockets for LONG stuff)

It's just made WELL
