Best deodorant?

I think a trend is emerging... there is zero consensus. :D

U stank B U stank, brah.... and U gotta figger it out on yer own...

You guys take the stink cake. I thought this was Blade Forums... not A Bitch Forums:p :p   :p

If you can notice your own stank, you are doing something wrong. If you feel a need to post about your smell, than you are most likely already a lost cause.

The Arm & Hammer Baking Soda stuff does the trick for me as well. Some extrodinary funny posts in this thread, hadn't laughed this hard in a while.

Adidas Sport - cool spice workout strength... for now is the pit-tamer of choice.

Also use the crystal now and then, but wetness creeps...

Let's hear it! What do you guys in the mountains, or down south, or in the middle of the country do when you don't have that great cover up?

I believe the best defense is a good offensiveness....

Living by the ocean, I can usually catch and gut enough fish so that no one really cares what is masking the sent in the hair under my arms. Fillet 30 blue fish or shuck a couple of bushels of bay scallops, walk into a room and see what people say! Three things are for sure: No one will be able to smell any body odor you might have; No one will be able to tell what fine deodorant you may have applied that morning; and you won't be invited back unless you brought lots of fresh
fish....

So, what do all you non-PC guys do when you are short of deodorant?

While I'm thinking about personal hygiene, what is the best all around deodorant on the market today? I mean something that will actually last most of the day, prevent perspiration, and not stain clothes. It seems like whenever I buy a deodorant, it will work for a few weeks, then it will quit working, and I'll have to buy a different brand. I've tried everything from Speed stick to Old Spice Red Zone. Anybody have any suggestions?

Although my last post was a little tongue in cheek... Let me add something that may be escaping my fellow fisherman:

You say you are looking for "the best all around deodorant on the market today" and that you want "something that will actually last most of the day, prevent perspiration, and not stain clothes.

Deodorants don't often stain cloths, but deodorants are not antiperspirants! If you are looking for a deodorant that also controls your sweat, you are not looking for a deodorant. Antiperspirants stop you from perspiring. Deodorants stop you from stinking. There are combination products that do both. All antiperspirants stop you from sweating in one way or another: Do you really feel that is healthy? If you are not a sweat hog, maybe you only need a good deodorant...

Mayo,

UPRICK! I'm only 43, have multiple personalities and don't see any point to buying a cow when I can still get the milk for free...

Go try to work up a good sweat at your grinder...  :p :p

I have tried everything ... I mean everything.

You know what works? Drinking Ice Tea. Something in it opens up the pores in the skin. Doesn't cut down on the stink ... but no more perspiration. Make sure you brush your teeth 3 times a day or you will get yellow teeth from all the tea. :D

One spray of cologne under each arm works for the smell, then when you God forbid start smelling ... you smell like love musk. :)

I've been using rubbing alcohol for 20 years now.

Kills the critters under your arms that cause the odors. Doesn't have any smell of its own. Doesn't seem to really dry out the skin, por cause any irritation - I apply it in the morning, after a good shower. Cheap.

I don't think the critters ever develop resistance to rubbing alcohol - it ruptures their little cell walls. It's not like it's an antibiotic.

Doesn't stop the sweat at all, but there's no resultant odor.

Also, I've not eaten red meat or poultry for about ten years, which improved my general overall smell (except on days where I overindulge in garlic or whatnot...).

I remember a series of medical studies being conducted quite a few years back which were investigating the potential link between the aluminum found in most anti-perspirants and higher than normal concentrations of aluminum being discovered in the brain cells of deceased alzheimer's patients.

I don't know whatever became of those investigations, but the attendant publicity at the time prompted me to try out Brigade Quartermasters' Odor Stop deodorant. To make a long story short, I've been using it ever since and am still quite pleased with the product. The little jars seem rather expensive at about $15 a pop, but only a very little amount is applied and it's no big deal if you miss a day. For the record this product is strictly a deodorant and not an anti-perspirant.

Michael,

You're right, I do keep confusing deodorant and antiperspirant. Ugh. I find that I do tend to be a sweat hog at times, sometimes sweating rather heavily while I'm just sitting around. I've actually been using Right Guard Sport anti-perspirant/deodorant for a while, and it seems to be working well so far. I'll stick with it until something else comes along I guess.

Oh, and I agree that working on a fishing boat sorta eliminates the need for a fancy deodorant. I think the customers have a hard time distinguishing between squid, fish guts, BO, and whatever other interesting smells we may discover during a trip.

Bronco,

I have actually heard about that study. The doctor I mentioned before had suggested alcohol to those that work in his office because one nurse had a reaction of some sort to an anti-perspirant she was using. She had a large lump under her arm, it turns out that the anti-perspirant had worked too well and had clogged the pores. (High school teacher explained this in greater detail, but it's been close to two years, give me a break:p) I like not ending up with soaked underarms at the end of the day, but I have to admit that using anti perspirant doesn't sound like the healthiest thing.

As for drinking a iced tea all the time...I have a hard enough time thinking when I'm relaxed, let alone hopped up on caffeine all the time.:D

Thanks for the replies, even if this thread is a little....."offensive" yuc yuc

I sweat BIG TIME and I can tell you the absolute BEST deodorant is the "crystal". I get mine at a local health food store, it last several years and there is absolutely NOTHING like it. TRUST ME..GIVE IT A TRY

For those of you who haven't noticed, this thread is twenty years old! It's nice to see names I haven't seen in a while.
Since it's up and running again, I use alcohol in a chemical-resistant spray bottle. It is not an antiperspirant though.

Since we are bumping this ancient thread......

I have tried natural ones (Crystal deodorant, Tom's of Maine) and big brand (Mitchum, Speed Stick, Arm and Hammer, Old Spice). It really depends on your body chemistry and whether you want to use antiperspirant or deodorant. Both types seem to give me a rash when it gets really hot and humid. The crystal works well enough for odor, but does nothing for perspiration. Pick up different kinds on sale until you find the one that works the best for you. ;)

Never heard of using Rubbing alcohol before. We are getting it back in the stores finally after almost a year.
