Best designers in the industry?

Bill Bagwell, Matt Lamey a couple of my fav's ! I want to also give credit to all the other designers out there who continue to produce fine blades. Too many to name.

I think one that has been forgotten is Daniel Winkler. Jerry Fisk is also one that many copy from. Let's not forget my pal Tim Wright, even though he does advertise or goes to shows his knives speak for themselves.:D

As far as innovation and impact on the industry is concerned, I think that Ken Onion and Bob Loveless are the two that come to mind first. Michael walker for his version of the Liner Lock, and Bill McHenry and Jason Williams for the Axis Lock.

For original and unique designs, I always think of Ray Appleton.

Two of my favorites that are no longer with us Corbet Sigman and Buster Warenski. Also Gray Taylor,Durvyn Howard,Steven Rapp and Ken Steigerwalt

I'll just comment based on the designs I like best, not necessarily the most original or most diverse.

Bob Loveless: IMO a true design genius, perfect designs no frills simply beautiful
Jens Anso: many clever designs, very original and recognizable; one of the simplest of his designs (the sheepfoot necker) is IMHO one of the best necker designs ever.
Tom Mayo: the TNT sets the standard for apparently simple, perfectly useable yet beautiful and ergonomic custom framelock. Great variety too, in both size and shape.

Here is my list:
Tim Galylean
Ken Onion
Todd Begg
Matt Cucchiara
JL Williams
Charles Marlowe
Shane Sibert
Jens Anso
Kevin Wilkins
Bob Terzuola
Kit Carson
Neil Blackwood
Tom Mayo

For fixed blades, no one has ever done any better than Loveless. His knives are as much art as they are function. All of the latter Loveless "improvers" have done nothing but water down the designs in my opinion. I always say if you are going to make Loveless knives just please make "LOVELESS" knives like Mike Lovett does.

For tactical folders, well theres this guy Scallion or Garlic or something that I prefer to all the others.

that is a great question ken. i had to think about that one.

Interesting thread.

Although it wouldn't be a custom knife once it was put into production, the Buck 110 is probably more prevalent and copied than just about any knife design that comes to mind.
