Hi ladies and Gents.

I am looking for a nice digital watch that :
1- does not need battery change
2- very comfortable
3- has large display as i am over 40 :(
4- good back light
5- world time

Hard to beat the Casio G-Shock series watches. There are several styles available. Just google "casio g-shock solar world time".

Casio G-Shock or Pro-Trek. Especially the Pro-Trek range has a very large and clear display. Both lines come wit "Solar" which is Casio's solar-powered watches.

There are literally hundreds to choose from, so youre bound to find something you like.

Check out The Unit by Nixon watches. I can't read a G-Shock to save my life (I'm 50) and their bands are not comfortable. The watch I mention has that really super soft rubber.

I bought my G-Shock(model GR8900A-1) a few months ago and I've been very happy with it....the only criteria that you listed that you may not like is the display(but being a little over 40 myself, I haven't had any issues with it).

Otherwise;

1. solar powered
2. very comfortable on a big wrist like mine
3. display may be a little smaller than what you are looking for
4. very cool LED backlight that illuminates the entire watch face. Also has a cool feature that makes the backlight come on when you turn your wrist to look at the watch in low light or dark conditions.
5. has world time

My vote goes to a G-Shock model. There are TONS to choose from and plenty that have the features you are looking for. I'm a pretty young guy but I don't think the majority of them would be too hard to read. I would actually recommend one that has an "inverted" display (like the one in Shadow123's post) with light numbers and a dark background. I find them slightly easier to read. The reason I like G-shocks a lot though is they're tough. I have beat the living hell out of mine and they have never failed me. Even if you don't do anything "extreme" or crazy while wearing it, it gives you peace of mind knowing that it will take a LOT to get that watch to fail so daily use will be a walk in the park for it.

Take a look at the G-Shock GW500A-1V. It might have a little smaller readout than you need though. The GW5600 looks like a winner too.

the gw5600j-1 is going to have the simplest and easiest to read display for aging eyes while meeting all your requirements. its without a doubt the most comfortable gshock series in my experience (light and slim) and its module lacks the "clutter" you find on most gshocks nowadays. i wouldnt consider it a fashion watch by any means but if youre looking for a high speed low drag gshock this is probably the epitome of it.

personally, i would advise against a negative or colored display if your eyesight is going... no offense to droppoint or shadow but in dim/low light its going to be way harder to see than a regular display.

GLX-5600, got it new on Kijiji for $60, I am a garbage man and a bushcrafter and I only take this off to wash it and have a shower. I drive a garbage truck at night, a good back light and easy to read was important to me too, this fit the bill.

DLC metal casing, screw down caseback, soft resilient straps vs. regular hard resin ones, made in Japan, wave ceptor 6, and other cosmetic differences.

screw down caseback? can i get a photo of this? from my understanding the caseback is the same as the gw5600j-1 which is ss and secured down by 4 screws.
the dlc metal accents are more aesthetic and have no significance in durability or function. the watch is also considerably larger/thicker than the gw5600j-1
ive owned over 20gshocks and g resins are g resins.... ive never been able to notice any difference other than the color or finish (matte or polished).
multiband 2 is perfect for USA/JAPAN... will the OP be traveling out side of those signal zone? if yes, wave ceptor 6 is a choice to consider.
cosmetic difference is the main reason why this watch is a considerable amount more than the gw5600j-1...
an attractive watch indeed (blacked out version), but youll have to justify if its worth the cost :)

i have casios/gshocks made from japan, thailand and china...

Spam: Why not just conduct a thorough research on your own. Here is a quick search on the two casebacks .. google is your friend.

Since both watches have the same pressure rating, what is the advantage of the screwdown back aside from esthetics?

would help if i saw this post

Casio G shock GW-5000-1JF!

LOL thought you were talking about the gr8900!!! the screw down case back isnt a feature thats available for the gr8900a to my knowledge which was the reason why i asked for a pic. both watches mentioned in my post (gw5600j-1 & gr8900a) have the more common 4 screw case backs which was the point i was trying to prove. its kind of funny both pics you provided are watches from the 5600 series (gw5600 & gw5000) and it had me scratching my head if we were on the same page... haha

owned :)
