Hi all,

Just got in a knife, and there is a good bit of rust on the blade / cutting edge. What is the best and easiest ways to go about removing rust? I've rubbed toothpaste onto a widgy prybar and that worked out pretty well, but that's the only trick I know of really. The blade material is Damascus (from Kershaw) if that matters any.

Thanks all, really appreciate any help! :D

If the toothpaste trick doesn't work, you probably need to upgrade to crocus cloth. Be careful with it, though, it's pretty abrasive.

Well I haven't tried anything yet, I just wanted to see what my options were :) Actually bought it from a person, so waiting for that person's permission before I try anything (don't want to do anything to the blade without his consent before I do anything to the knife in case I want to ask for a refund/exchange). Wasn't sure if the toothpaste would be harmful to the steel or anything, heard Damascus was a finicky thing O.o

Speaking of Flitz, where the heck do you get the stuff? I've only been able to find it on Amazon, and even then there were a bunch of different kinds, so I wasn't sure which to go for :\

AFAIK, there's only one kind of Flitz metal polish but it's sold in many different sizes and container types.
I buy it in a toothpaste type tube from Dillman & Upton; they also have a store on eBay.

Also, I definitely agree that you should not touch the blade unless and until you get the seller's consent.
Removing rust from damascus steel is a dicey proposition.

Ahh, that could have been what threw me off, different containers! Bah :P

Yeah, it's killing me waiting to hear back about this - want to clean it off and play with my new toy! Argh :(
