Can't go over budget.

I like the ka bar mule. Want something with solidness and good for cutting slicing etc. can't be less then 3", more preferred.

TOPS knives have good options in that range. Their website lets you search for knives by size - find one you like and then buy it from a dealer as you'll save quite a bit of money that way.

Also check out the knifemaker's for sale section here as I've picked up a fair number of custom fixed blades for under $100.

Endura 4 FFG - with steel liners and a lockback design, it's much more sturdy than some folks give it credit for (and it can be found new for around $70 at Knifeworks):

Absolutely worth it, IMHO.

Me personally I payed $110 for the zt0350 and can't be more pleased. Cuts, slices, stabs. The handles a little short for me,, but it almost cuts effortlessly so it's a trade off... Like it in black bought one in tiger sptripes

If you're looking for something somewhat similar to the Ka-Bar Mule, you might want to try out a Cold Steel Recon 1, Voyager, Talwar or American Lawman. They are well within your budget, very tough.

Spyderco Endura, Native (just a bit over your 3" minimum but a great design in S30V), Stretch, Manix 2.

Benchmade Griptilian (I'm fond of the 550, but they're all good), Presidio Ultra.

Kershaw Blur (S30V), Junkyard Dog II (with a very cool composite blade)

great suggestions so far, im going to throw out something different. how about the CRKT Foresight?

You can find a Zero Tolerance ZT0350 for $85 as blems. ZT0566 goes for a few bucks more, but is an awesome EDC.

Benchmade and Kizer Cutlery also make stuff in that range that will work great.

Too many options to list.

Amen.

OP - this is all you buddy. Great suggestions so far, and you will get a gajillion more I'm sure. Bottom line is: go with something you like the looks of, that has materials that appeal to you. You have been around here long enough to know what's good and what's not, so I have nothing more to add other than "happy hunting"!

....and post pics!

I'm trying to find something with a bit better edge holding then 8cr13mov or aus 8a. Don't get me wrong I think they're both decent steels but I wanna try something else. I like the junkyard dog but the fact it's d2 laminated with a steel that's very similar to d2 it kinda puts me off. For one it seems it might shorten then length of the knife after so many sharpenings and two it seems unnecessary considering the materials used. Unless I'm missing something?

D2 and 14C28N aren't terribly similar, but the general premise (to my understanding) is to have a tougher steel for the spine, and a harder one for the edge. I basically regard it as a cool-looking D2 blade. Now, eventually, you might sharpen it down to where the blade is joined, but unless you regularly try to cut highly abrasive rocks, it's probably going to outlive you with proper maintenance.

The Blur is an excellent suggestion, in S30V or Elmax. That's probably the best steel you're going to find in your price range, and the blur is just a great, solid knife, and you can deassist it if that's your preference. The Manix 2 technically has a sub-3" cutting edge because of the choil, but the overall package is that of a larger knife. I like the Lightweight iterations, but you could grab a used XL Manix if you want something bigger (but heavier).

Oh, I know you want to keep it at $100, but if you can scrape together just 5 bucks more (or find someone selling one on the exchange, maybe) you could grab a Carbon Fiber S30V Skyline, an absolutely amazing knife that I'm obsessed with.
