Best EDC for Commerical Electrician?

There is the Swiss Army Alox Electrician with a wire stripping blade. But if the primary use is to strip Romex, one of the major electrical tool companies makes wire strippers with holes for removing the outer shield on that cable type. The electrician on Ask This Old House uses those strippers, which is the first time I saw something of that type.

For a modern day Electricien's EDC:

My uninformed opinion based on no experience in the industry would be to recommend one of the many fine multitools available today. Not work dedicated and suboptimal in use, they could be invaluable to a task when that is all you have at hand right now.

Which one? My bias is towards Leatherman, but quality tools are available from Gerber and others.

If it’s a secondary blade to the task specific tools then it can be anything that tickles your fancy, but if you’re the type that will reach for your folder first before anything else, I don’t think you can do better than a Spyderco. Drawing a folder from your pocket multiple times a day, making the cut and swiftly folding it away and clipping it back in your pocket doesn’t come more fumble free than something like the PM2. Pick your favorite steel to beat on.

Sebenza was already mentioned so that leaves me to mention the Smatchet! 😉😁

Any modern folder with a decent midrange or higher steel will more than meet your needs. Just choose one you like and that fits your budget.

Appreciate all the comments/advice

I guess i worded my original post incorrectly. I’m looking for a new EDC, and i’m in electrical work. i wouldn’t be using it strictly for doing the stuff i mentioned, those were just some examples that came to mind when i was making the post. i know there’s specific tools for specific jobs but a good knife is helpful for the workday, i use my current knife everyday for stuff.
My EDC during the days when I did electrical work was a Camillus-made Buck 303 (3 1/4" stockman with 440A blade steel). I really didn't need anything more.

I suppose if I were doing electrical work today I might carry something like a Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 to carry on the job. I'd remove the clip and put it in my front pocket. I wouldn't want anything sticking out of my pocket that might interfere with my Tool bag, parts bag, and hammer all hanging on my tool belt.

The Mini Recon 1 has decent steel, a handle shape that guarantees that your hand can't slip, and it's reasonably priced. Reasonable price is important because bad things can happen to tools on the job.

Drywall/keyhole saw for drywall, razor knife for romex. Carry any knife u want to cut your 🍎. I’m a newly retired IBEW 38 Wireman, who spent 40yrs working on commercial/industrial jobs. As was mentioned use the right tool for the job, if you’re a commercial electrician you should have a tool bag which should have a drywall saw and razor knife for the dirty jobs.
I still carried a folder to work, CRK, Hinderer, SPY, ect. ect. and mainly used them to cut tapes, jet-line, open boxes, strip wire, and cut my lunch. My only folder suggestion would be a blade with a stronger tip. I carried a Spyderco Techno to work everyday for 5 yrs, and after that a Spyderco Native 5 and they did everything I could ask of a knife. Although the Native 5’s blade bent a little while trying to pry a sheet of drywall off the wall.
Most of the tradesman I’ve encountered over the years do/did not carry pocket knives. The majority mostly use razor knives, the ones that did carry mostly carried cheap Chinese crap. Occasionally I’d run into someone with a Kershaw. The last job I was on prohibited pocket knives altogether, and the use of a razor knife was only to be used as a last resort. I retired at the right time!

Buy good quality replacement blades. Put a strip of electrical tape around the screw driver collar so it can't pop out while prying. I also carry a modern folder as a primary, right now it's a Microtech Socom Elite. Although my PM2 in S90V is my most carried.
