i want to add a new knife to my collection. i want a nice gentlemen's folder that will last me years. i want to be able to use the knife tho. i have been looking at the small sebenza 21 its a amazing knife but i cant see using that knife everyday its to expensive. im looking for something in the $250 range. any ideas?

Have a look a the Spyderco Sage ll, titanium, frame lock etc. It will do the job for you, as well as the small Sebenza. Plus you'll have money left over, and no guilt trip, when using it. :p

Spyderco's Kopa line works fine as a gentleman's knife. Spyderco also offers the Kiwi which is a might fit the bill. You could also look into Mcusta Knives. They have a some nice folders that are very usable for a gentleman's knife.

If you look on the forums you can easily find a small Sebenza for $250. Although I don't see the Sebenza as a Gentleman's folder, it has a thick blade, thick frame and will stand up to anything any sub 3" bladed folding knife will. I see it as a small hard use folder. The best Gentleman's folder IMO is the Mnandi also made by the same company but more within the traditional Gentleman's folder style while still being very tough.

Good quality gentlemen folders are the kind of knife I crave most myself.

A few suggestions:

- Nearly anything from Mcusta. Most are cheaper than $250 yet really good, and if you are ok to spend a little bit more, then the high end new MC-14 series seems awesome. Eventually I will buy one.
- Any Klötzli you can find in that price range. Pretty rare yet really good Swiss quality. Think about sebenza construction and finish quality, and geared towards gentlemen (but they can handle pretty tough work as well). They are that good indeed. For example this one is a marvel at a price within your budget.
- The Spyderco Stretch 2 with CF handles is quite a dressed-up yet high end folder with ZDP steel, it can handle anything while looking classy enough.
- I don't have the Spyderco Sage 2 yet but it seems indeed very much inline with what you are looking for. However the Caly 3 with CF handles and ZDP blade appeals more to me, and it is a truly compact yet elegant workhorse. The CF makes it more high tech gentlemeny in my opinion
- a French "gentlemen series" laguiole by Fontenille Pataud: more compact with a thicker handle than the usual laguiole, these make for wonderfully luxurious EDC. Really very nice, and strong. Check here for an overview. I have the horn tip one. Isn't it a beauty?
- I have two wonderful compact Moki "knife of the year" models which are not for sale anymore. Really splendid and high quality. This one is still on sale and it should be great.
- Fallkniven of course, no nonsense elegance and very well made with good steel. Check their TK3 and FH9 folders; and perhaps a bit heavy but so very luxurious: the dependable PXL with ivory micarta handle.

I hope this helps!

:thumbup:I'll second the Klötzli's & Mcusta's

They both make fine gents knives.

This Mcusta in particular really caught my eye.I think it's called "Kasumi"

Perhaps a Spyderco UKPK? It's a slip-it but is made of high quality materials. CPM-S30V steel, FFG, G10 and wire clip. A great slicer, people-friendly, legal almost everywhere and very light.

I plan on picking up one myself. :D

I'll add a third recommendation for Mcusta knives. They come very sharp... great quality and finish.

I find Mcusta a little bit too small and their linerlocks do not seem as robust as I would like. I suggest you check out Paul knives (Lone Wolf) - great gents' folders that come in a range of blade shapes and sizes and made in USA

The Buck Mayo Waimea is really nice as a gemnlemens EDC.
It's not too big and very light.
The construction is perfect, titanium handles on both sides and a S30V blade, i love mine.

Take a look at "Moki" and "Al Mar." Both make some very nice, thin folders. The steel takes a great edge and holds it, the designs are perfect for EDC wear with dress clothes, and the prices are in the ranges that you are looking for.

I like the Kershaw Nakamura, and it's very reasonably priced...recently discontinued, I would get one before they are all gone...
