Best EDC SAK for the urban environment.

Certainly could be. Could also be a Tinker, or better yet, a Deluxe Tinker.

Then again it could be the Adventurer.

Maybe it's the Soldier.

You'd best just get a whole bunch of them and try 'em all out.

I recently came across a review raving about Wenger Ranger. It seems nice, although it might be harder to find than most. Check it out.

I suggest a Compact if you have no use for a phillips screwdriver.
Knife, scissors, combo tool, hook, tweezers and toothpick.
Only 2 layers thick.

How large a SAK do you plan to carry? What tools do you intend to find on it? An Explorer or Deluxe Tinker (91mm, 4-layers) would serve you well in an urban environment. The Compact (2 layers) is also a good choice. =)

I also vote for the Compact. The scissors come in handy on a regular basis. I almost never need a SAK to open a can (I use the one in the kitchen) but I will pop open a few beer bottles every now and then so I really have little use for separate can and bottle openers. I don't drink wine but I do wear glasses so the small screwdriver in the corkscrew gets some use. I haven't found any use for the hook. The main blade speaks for itself. :) Don't forget you also get tweezers, toothpick and a pen. The pen is too small for comfortable use but will work in a pinch. I think the Compact is the best 91mm, 2 layer, cellidor knife made by Victorinox. I have a black one, it is my favorite SAK and one of my favorite pocket knives.

I like the Climber and the Compact for urban carry. I also like the Wenger Sécurité model that has the same tools as the Climber with the addition of a phillips screwdriver and universal wrench. Wenger Evolution SAKs are cool, too.

The Huntsman and the Huntsman Lite (although a bit on the thick side) are two favourites of mine for about every place.

It could be any SAK you like. I personally prefer the CyberTool lineup. I carry the CyberTool 41 everyday.

I carry an Explorer Plus or Spartan Lite most days that I feel i need the bulk of around 4 layers. The Explorer gets the nod most of the time for some reason. However, there are very few times that i feel like I am under-SAKed with a regular old Spartan or a Soldier in my pocket.

Well I have used every tool it has for various “emergencies” . The little wrench came in vary handy in one occasion. You can't do much with it but if you need to pick up something small hold something etc. I also like the fact that it has a Phillips sd. It a bit awkward since is is in a T position but it's usable . Bottle opener / flat screw driver has came in handy more than once. IT is not perfect but I have used all the tools on it with success. I have never tried to open a can using the opener so I can't tell you if it will do that well, but the opener is sharp and I have cut things with it.

Perhaps the measure of a good SAK should be if all the tools have been used and worked.

Agreed.

I like the inline crosshead screwdrivers myself. I try to avoid the offset (T-position) crossheads. Don't know why the maker puts them there.

Try the Victorinox Jumpmaster. It has a curved round tipped blade for cutting seat belts, rope, clothing (for medical treatment) & a wood saw as well as the standard blade (locking). It also has straight & phillips screwdrivers & a canopener. These are just the thing for urban emergencies. The cybertool line is probably better if you want a toolbox type knife. Also, NO CORKSCREW!

i have a wenger that is the same as a huntsman but he nailfile in place of small blade, and the main blade has a locking system, also the screwdriver locks in place when you apply some pressure, and the knife is 85 mm long

nice pick,

also the deluxe tinker is a niceone, the compact too, and the scientinst and yeoman are wonderful but kinda hard to find

Cheers
