Spyderco Chokwe.
Hands down.
Looks different but has an amazing feel to it. Thinner blade perfect for regular EDC tasks, great blade shape, really pointy tip perfect for penetrative cuts.
It's just a great knife overall.

Or a DPX H.E.S.T. 2.0.

Spyderco yojimbo. It's like a massive heavy duty box cutter, makes excellent precision cuts, and has the blade shape has been supported by two defensive blade designers, mike janoch and dirk pinkerton.

I think here should be a banner under the bladeforums logo that says in big bold letters
"The best knife for self defence is training."

Pretty simple fact that a man can be dangerous with a spoon with the proper self defence classes. But since the question has been asked, I imagine a small easy to conceal fixed blade with a spear point and a false edge used in rapid, repeated stabs to an attackers chest and groin would do the trick.

Spyderco Military or Endura would fulfill your needs, along with plenty of others but sounds like that'd be your best bet.

Many people focus on speed of deployment, but I find security beats speed: don't rush it, don't fumble it. Learn to handle your knife comfortably and you'll get it into action fast enough. As the old gunfighter said, it's not the fastest draw that wins, it's the one who hits his target first. The Military is a great knife for this. Big enough for an easy draw and secure grip and snaps open quickly and smoothly. The Endura is a close cousin for reliability also.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast, fast is deadly.

I think this question of SD with a knife is valid. I carry a knife because I use it several times a day. Why not choose one that can also double in the highly unlikely event I'll need it for SD. Also, I find the idea that "if you only have a knife you should hand over your wallet or run" very funny. Even if I had a 12 ga I'd hand over my wallet. I'm not going to risk jail time or the PTSD associated from shooting someone. It's not worth a couple hundred bucks. YMMV.

My vote and what I carry is the Millie.

Once you deploy a knife (deadly weapon)...if the other person has a gun he's going to draw and shoot you. That's what I'd do.

I don't think he wanted to hear what would be better than a knife, or about Pepper spray and such, as I'm sure he(and all of us) knows all that.

He just asked a simple knife question on a knife site:p

We don't need to know what you would do. I would do the same, but the OP asked a very simple knife question.

Bold +1.

And given the knives that many here carry, I imagine that losing that knife to the evidence locker would be just as expensive as losing the wallet. ;)
