Best Extra Heavy Duty All-rounder?

Dedicated chopper that has other uses? Get a FBM of some sort as already mentioned.

Best extra heavy duty all 'rounder? Get a NMSFNO. 8" of heavy duty, smack 'em - whack 'em muscle that chops as good as a BWM. Of this I have no doubt.

And welcome to the Trough!!! :D

I second that 100%. NMSFNO best all-rounder Busse has made to date.

b-11 all the way. it's lighter than the fbm's, faster and the res-c handle is uber comfy when chopping or when the s@it hit's the fan. also no gym membership needed.

I guess I will be the first to say that you are sadly underestimating the BWM as it in it's own right will do everything you said and surprise you at how well it will do it. It is one tough knife with plenty of length but just enough weight in all the right places. I will say from experience that 5 miles down the trail the length won't bother you nearly as much as the weight so my mistresses all now stay at home while the Basic 11 (which just relegated my two BWM's to stay at home status) and FSH get to go out.

If you want something stouter than the Bushwacker, then you may as well go with either a FBM LE or an NMFBM or a CGFBM all of which will cost you a lot more.

If shorter is what you really want, then an FSH is going to be a better chopper than an NMSFNO but the NMSFNO might be better at most everything else. A SAR 8 would work well too, haven't used a SARSquatch yet so can't say.

I'd say give your BWM a chance or if you want something similar to the Bushwacker but far better all the way around then find yourself a Basic 11. You'll be glad you did either way.

Good luck with such a tough decision and have fun!

I have only ever chopped with the FBMLE, so I don't have any comparisons to other Busse choppers to offer.

I can say, that lots of people use the FBMLE as their beater, including me. (That may change when the Basic 11, and KZ get here).

Don't forget the MOFO, it's the best all-arounder Busse ever made, best looking too :D

You got to try one in the wild to appreciate it. It's an amazing blade.

The FBMLE is a pretty awesome blade as well as the NMSFNO or the HH. But no ones really mentioned the BWMLE. It seems to be a pretty well made and heavy duty Busse.

I have most of the blades mentioned in this thread so feel free to PM me if you are in Sydney and want to feel what they are like and how they compare.

Agreed!! I originally suggested a FBMLE due to the thread title, and I assumed the OP was looking for a heavy style blade (i.e., FBMLE, FFBM, NMFBM, etc...).

However if one is looking for the heaviest all around knife, look no further, he BWMLE leaves nothing to be desired. It has a perfect thinkness (.22"), excellent reach, the saber grind adds to the weight and strength AND it is a damn sexy looking knife in BP/Satin:cool:

I prefer to wear my knives rather than carry them in a backpack, and I personally find even the cgfbm to too heavy on a belt for extended hikes.

I would have to side with the 'try you BWM out first' crowd. Although a really good deal, it is pretty pricey, for most people, for a 'knife'. It has been getting really nice reviews from most people. The only issues I have seen are those who thin out the edge too much and then use it on things that I might be hesitant to use an axe.

I would also have to agree that the B11 or the Dogfather might be excellent choices. Both can be had for a fraction of what the other mistresses blades named in this post are going to go for. All this being said, the NMSFNO is probably my favorite Busse. Even the CG versions are some of the nicest overall finished blades I have seen and the Le versions are even nicer.

I have or have had nearly all of the candidates mentioned .... I am with Trevor on prefering the flat ground FBM LE over the sabre ground FFBM ... I had a FFBM and sold it on ... it did'nt feel quite right ... given you have a BWM coming I would think that is pretty much ideal for Australia's Bush ... if you tweak the edge and give it a high convex grind you have a brilliant chopper. Light enough to carry, light enough to fill a machete role if need be, and chopping power wise there is nothing it cannot tackle ....

The BWM handles are IMO a lot more comfortable than the Fusion grips on the FBM ....

To step up on performance to significantly "know" you have an alternative knife which will do tasks quicker I think you would need a NMFBM or a Zilla ..... the B11 has to be in the same territory as the BWM and the BWMLE which is a cracking knife and very like the SHBM's in terms of ideal weight for carrying and chopping ... is also not going to be a "significant" alternative performance wise .... and the FBM LE whilst being a better chopper is IMO not the sort of "step back and be impressed" type of difference you will get with a NMFBM or a Zilla .... and of those two in terms of your "gym" comment I would say the NMFBM is the better of the two for you.

If they seem too big .... then stick with the BWM for a while and see what it can do .... you won't be dissapointed at all .... and personally speaking a few extra whacks here and there over a FBM LE but being more comfortable and lighter to carry would make it my choice rather than the FBM LE .... much as I do like my FBM LE military overrun .... it sort of gets overlooked slightly now .... if I want more performance than my BWM or BWMLE I tend to go straight to the NMFBM .... of the blades I have I would probably pick a NMSFNO, then a BWM/BWMLE, then a NMFBM as a staggered size option and then the Zilla.
