Best Fighting Hawk on the planet?

Glad you posted this. I was about to order a Rattle Hawk, then found RMJ, then the self reliance stuff, and am now confused.

In your opinion, what is the best combat hawk out there regardless of price?

Either a 9mm or a 40 cal.

Axes are for work. Guns are for fighting. Hawks are for making mall ninjas look cool - with one exception. A hawk can be a self rescue tool for a first responder or soldier.

Yeah yeah move along. Lots of enthusiasts here professionals and intelegent people who don't deserve to be called "mall ninjas". Most of us own our guns also and are not looking to start fights with Tomahawks vs glocks. Go spread you valuable wisdom on a gun forum.

Stop defending mall ninjas. What square peg said is 100% true and logical.

Man I have a lot of interesting and fun stuff in my gun safe that I never plan on using on another human being. I enjoy collecting and shooting precision (some will say sniper) rifles that I never plan on using on a human being... that does not make the range work any less fun. His point that a Tomahawk is not the ideal choice for self defense is true in the modern era; I totally grant you that. I also grant you that my Gransfors Bruks is a more practical woodland tool. I would also submit that these arguments are obvious and unnecessary. We are debating this mostly for fun and collection purposes and that I don't deserve to be called a "mall ninja" for having an interest in tomahawks on the tomahawk forum.

I carry a glock 22 for social use. I asked a question. You didn't answer it. If you want to be snide, save it for someone who cares.

I am looking for a combat oriented Hawk. If you don't approve of such things, you have nothing to offer in this thread

To everyone who has offered relevant thoughts so far, thank you

RMJ is coming out with three collaboration projects this year. They've posted teasers on their FB page of the first project; it looks like a fighter of some sort judging from the size.

And the answer is subjective, what one person prefers may not be the same as another, and it can all be influenced by the fighting style as well.

I'm also leaning heavily toward to Rattlehawk. 333 with blue/black g10 including shipping isn't bad. I do love the RMJ designs, but i've seen nothing that makes me think it's superior.

But you'll buy a hawk for that purpose? That doesn't make any sense at all.

Sigh, yes I enjoy shooting my sniper rifles at the range even though that is not their intended purpose. I have a .50 ae desert eagle which arguably has absolutely no practical purpose but is an absolute hoot to shoot. I have a couple of double edged knives that are not as practical as other designs for skinning or utility, but even though do not stab people with them, I find them interesting and aesthetically appealing. Heck this "blade forum" and lots of people collect knives and don't use them at all around here (that's not my thing for the most part but I bet at least 30% of the people on this forum have at least one non user). Ogre over the busse forum chopped through a car with a kill devil sniper hawk, and I find that increasibly amusing... These things do not have to be the end all be all tactical efficiency to be amusing, nor (like the desert eagle) do they have to used in combat to be enjoyed.

There is one which comes up a lot...trying to remember the name...possibly the Winkler Sayoc. Go look :) if it is the one I am thinking of it is highly regarded by some on here. Bear in mind I have little knowledge of tomahawks and no interest in putting them in people

Agree.

I don't use nunchuks on people either, but they give some fun and diversity to workouts. As do hawks, or any other blade. Somebody always has to get derogatory and go all "You're stupid if you don't talk guns" in an edged tool forum just because you use descriptors like fighting or combat. I suspect they are the true keyboard ninjas.

On track with the question in the OP. I currently like the CRK&T/RMJ collaborations. I haven't thrown mine, but kind of fun doing forms with them. Adds a little weight to a workout.

I goita Rattlehawk and Kill Devil when they were first offered.

The Rattlehawk is certainly sharp all over and offers a wicked hooked beard for snagging / trapping. However I find it a little short and the fact that the head is sharp all the way around doesn't really make it all that much better in my non-expert opinion. I actually like the balance and feel of the Kill Devil a little better. I've also owned RMJ, ATC, and other hawks but the one I'd reach for first for a fighting hawk is a 24" Vec001 BUG Hawk - these are Cold Steel Trail Hawk heads with an ounce or so of metal ground off to make the poll a little more angular and increase PSI (although it's still a hammer poll) and to give the beard a semi-sharpened edge, and hung on a composite handle. It's light, quick, versatile in a variety of grips and holds, gives meaningful reach advantage when compared to other hawks or knives and still hits hard.

I've come to the conclusion that I actually like a hammer poll or dull spike head more than a sharp spike - when swung in anger it's still going to inflict trauma and likely penetrate significantly - but it's less likely to do that in case of incidental contact or when choking up on the head.

I'd really like to check out a Winkler, an RMJ Shrike, and a Greymatter but I tend to feel like the relatively short handle is going to leave me liking the BUG hawk better.

The only thing you proved with that mindset; you're one dimensional fighter.

9mm or 40 is also not applicable because if I am going to COMBAT as the op posted, I'm taking a rifle. A pistol is only for fighting back to a rifle. Not that I ever plan to use my hawk for combat I did carry one in country for light breaching and as a last resort. Also if you listen to why many blade companies who started making the tactical hawks started making the,m it was at the request of soldiers. Now to the OP's question, I have played with a few RMJs and the bench made/k5 Emerson and the Atc Lagana hawk I finally ordered a storm crow/helm forge hawk. I bought it as a jack of all trades work horse, and it has succeeded in all aspects. But if I ever did have to fight with it I have no doubt it would excel
