Best fit and finish under $200(Updated)

I'm going to recommend something with an IKBS pivot in it. The way the bearings allow the knife to pop open with just a tap on the flipper is just fun to see.

I also think that part of the fun is the sound a knife makes when it locks up. There was a thread some time ago about knives that sound good when they deploy, and the general consensus was that metal scales transmit sound better, making for better sounding lockups.

If you could find something about the size of a Retribution, with all-metal handles, and IKBS, I bet it would sound like a rifle bolt!

Those are very interesting. I found CRKT knives and the southard that have it, or similar, system. Any other knives/brands that use this? Thanks.

The Kershaw Tilt is the only other production knife using IKBS that I know of right now.

Todd Begg uses it in his customs, but they are way above your price point.

I suppose that any knife could be adapted to use IKBS, by someone who knows their stuff. You would need to make sure the liner scales are thick enough to have a path milled out for the bearings to sit in. There are probably people in the Knifemaker's section who would be willing to give it a go for you.

Benchmade 943 is an almost perfect knife. I bought mine for about $175 CAD

after that is the Spyderco Ti Military. which is flawless. Although I paid a little more than $250 for it

I got the Benchmade 710 in CPM-M4 in and I have to say, it fell way short of expectations. I'm a Benchmade fan, but there is denying my way around this one, it's terrible. The edge was chipped about an inch from the tip. It can be seen with the naked eye, and blatantly obvious when you run a nail down it. The other issue is the blade is horribly off center. It looks ok at the axle, but almost makes contact with the liner towards the tip. The knife itself was smooth, but no more so than my other benchmades, and it was much larger than I expected or prefer, although that's not really a knock on Benchmade.

The vendor I bought it from will take it back and send me a replacement so we'll see how the replacement looks when it shows up.

On the bright side, M4 is supposed to be very difficult to chip. So perhaps they've increased the hardness again?

Benchmade was having issues heart treating the M390 hence why they switched to M4.

That I did not know. I was actually wanting the 710 in M390 but they were sold out. I'm kind of glad I went the M4 route now. I have a Griptillian in M4 with the higher (62-64) heat treat and its holding it's edge amazingly.
