Best fixed blade for <100$?

Hello Lukthree,

There are many good knives available that meet your criteria. Here are some suggestions: Boker magnum Slim Hunter Damascus, German Bull Hunter Stag, Puma Catamount Staghorn, Silver Stag Deep Valley or Sharp Forest, Case Hunter Skinner or Small Slab Side Hunter.

There are some that are just over $100 which include: Bark River Woodland Special w/ Micarta handle, Puma Bowie or Skinner w/ Staghorn handle, Silver Stag Short Bowie Tool Steel Series.

Personally, my choice out of these would be the Bark River Woodland Special.

Hope this helps!

Lukthree,

When you tire of the Mora, check your local Wally World - or 'Academy Sports/Outdoors' chain, if you have them in PA. Look for the Buck 119 'Special', as others have suggested. It's a 6"-er - great 'hunting' style knife that will suffice as a kitchen and bushcraft/camping knife. They run $34 & $38 respectively there - great bargain. You can buy the 119BR version generally mail order for ~ $55-$70. It has the same blade - and a pretty brass finger guard and pommel, with a rosewood handle. It's a bit heavier - in the fg & handle - and quite handsome. I have one - and put it in a display, requiring a trip to a cheap store for the base model. When not in the yard, it resides in a kitchen drawer - my favorite butcher/parer knife.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! How do the Fallkniven F1 knives stack up? On their site it says they sell F1 blade blanks, but i can only find some of the other models online, not the F1. Anyone know where i can purchase an F1 blank (in the newer laminated VG-10)? Anyone have this knife than can recommend or not recommend it? It seems to be a pretty tried and true knife from what ive read, and i like the blade shape and steel, i just hate the handle haha and would much rather make my own custom one :D

Knife Supply sells the blanks, but I seem to remember they are listed in knife making supplies but not in the Falllkniven section.

Elkins45, Great! Exactly what I've been looking for, thank you. I'm at college right now but luckily my dad has just about every woodworking tool known to man, I'm gonna dream up something wild for the handle and definitely get some pictures up here of the finished product whenever i get around to making it!

Based on your specs,I would recommend the BRK&T Lil' Nessy.

I have a thread about it with pics HERE

IMO,the perfect knife for hunting.

Good Luck & welcome to Bladeforums:)
