Best Flashlight to Keep in the truck

I am going to jump on the Surefire G2 bandwagon. It should be as bright as a lot of those big Maglites, and it runs on lithiums, which won't fail in cold weather, like alkalines might. Also, it is plastic, which is a lot more comfortable to hold (in cold weather).

I would probably vote for the G2 as well. I like the Streamlight Scorpion, but I'm having trouble with the rubber sleeve moving back. Not very happy with that.

I'll second the Streamlight Scorpion. The rubber coating shouldn't move around too much if it just sits in the glovebox, and that rubber feels better in your hand than aluminum will at -20. Cr123 batteries are supposed to be pretty stable in low temps as well. You can find them for around $40 with a pair of batteries included.

I also just picked up a Terralux Ministar2 LED retrofit for my 2AA MiniMag. Nice and bright, supposed to extend battery life considerably although I have yet to test. The same circuitry should give you equal light even on cold batteries, although maybe not for as long a time period. Also, no one wants to steal a nasty old MiniMag that you probably already have on hand to begin with. About $25 delivered (+$10 for a new MiniMag if you don't have one handy).

Right now, I have a crappy dollar store flashlight in my center console, and a big crappy Wal Mart flashlight in my cargo area. I am going to upgrade each with two Maglites, a big one in the cargo area, and a smaller version in my center console. Also, at work, I have a no name brand flashlight on my file cabinet, one day the power went out, and I thought I had a spotlight in my hands!

IMO, I think that Maglites are the best flashlights that you can have in a truck. :D

I've thought about getting a Surefire G2 for mine, however, I would probably keep the 3D Maglite that I have in there as well. I don't think that one could have enough lights at night, especially if you break down, have a blowout, etc..

For my big rig, I keep a 4D Maglite for lighting and possible tire(thug) thumping ;).

Although the Mags are great, I also usually EDC my Surefire E2E on me with plenty of extra batteries.

i don't think you can beat a standard 4 cell mag light. it is a decent light for the money and it doubles as a club whn needed at stop lights

Inova XO, Great light, very strong, with some really good throw.4 hours of non stop run time with a couple of more hours after of less light, and it could be had for 40.00. Oh yeah you will never need to replace the bulb :D

I like the Surefire G2,but the biggest weakness is there is no lock out cap.

Based on a SHOT show update on USN (possibly here, too) the G2 will have a lock-out cap available this year. Presumably there will be a sub-market in the part alone assuming it'll fit prior G2s.

The only problem with my current maglite (next down in size from their biggest size) is that it doesn't work. I'm guessing the bulb is broken, I haven't had a chance to replace it. I guess that it is a good thing, only after about 30 good hard falls onto thick concrete did it break, by accident :D . Before I buy a replacement bulb, would Maglite send me a new one for free?

Check the tail cap for the spare bulb that Mag-Lite includes with each flashlight. In a way, they've already sent you a free one. ;)

I have an XO3. What's the difference between the two?

The XO is a little larger then the XO3, The XO has the shape of the x5.The XO has a longer run time but the xo3 has a longer throw.

I believe the XO3 has 1.5 hours of constant brightness where is the XO has 4 hours.
I dont own a XO3 (But its on the list :D ) I think the XO3 has the clickie switch where is the XO has the clickie switch but to keep the light on you have to turn the tail cap.The XO3 is a amazing light that is BRIGHT, its a 3 watt light where is the XO is a 1 watt light.

Hope that answers your question...........

Yes, it does. Thank you. Being myopic and over 40, I need all the light I can get, especially after dark. :)

I recently helped out a co-worker in our server room. He was working on one of the racks in the corner, where there's very little light. He asked me if he could borrow one of my flashlights. I asked him which one he wanted. He replied, "A bright one."

I turned on the XO3 and handed it over, cautioning him not to look into the beam, which of course he sort of almost did, out of sheer curiosity. He cried out, "Now this is what I'm talking about!" He laid the light on a nearby shelf and went to work. He had more than enough light. :D
