Best flipper EDC?

I've got a Camillus Cuda MAXX and love it, but it's large size sometimes makes me worry about the legality (or lack thereof) of carrying it. Also, one gets looks pulling out such a large blade.

However, it really is the perfect knife. I love flippers, and framelocks, and the mechanism is so smooth. Of course, the answer would be to buy a DDR custom with a smaller size, but I don't have the cash, and this will be an EDC.

So, what can you all suggest that has a flipper, smooth action, and perhaps a frame lock?

Or anything I would enjoy as much as my Cuda MAXX.

The Kershaw OD-1 looks like a nice EDC. A little less than 3 inches, the flipper, when open, is completely hidden. It uses a frame lock system as well.

If you don't mind assisted opening check out the Kershaw Leek, it's my favorite flipper and also my favorite AO. It's smooth, good EDC size, is people friendly, and uses the framelock. There are also many different models of it, so you can find the one that really calls to you.

The OD-1 is also a great Kershaw flipper design and has all the pros that the Leek has in a non-AO package.

+1 on the Leek. Also, you may want to check out the Kershaw Groove. Both are great knives.

its not a frame lock but the kershaw ram is an amazingly smooth flipper. i love mine and EDC it quite often.

I'm hoping to check out an OD-1 soon, but aside from A/O flippers, I say the Groove & Zing. I thought my Groove was very similar in its smoothness to my DDR Maxx Q1A, although heavier & the Zing has the smaller blade, which you mentioned possibly needing. The nice think about both knives is that they're not too expensive & you get probably pick up one of each for about $100.

A Boker Trance off course.
It's also small enough with a low riding clip to fit in that fifth pocket on jeans.

This is a great knife!
But I can't flip it open without alot of wrist action.

As YayILikePie, tjsulli790, ROBB, supasuprab0b and DazedAndConfused have already mentioned, the Kershaw OD-1 is a knife i can whole-heartedly recommend. It is my top EDC knife right now.

It has just under 3" (2-15/16") blade and the blade shape is quite slender so as not to "offend" non-knife-folks. The flipper is very fast and smooth and the flipper actually disappears into a recess so with the blade deployed, the OD-1 is quite an elegant, clean and simple design which helps in not scaring people. It is a framelock and lockup is solid on mine with a G10 scale on one side to aid your grip. The blade steel is Sandvik 14C28N which is a good steel (no issues with it so far) and it came very sharp. It 'bit' me on the thumb while closing :o . It includes some features that you normally see in higher-end production and custom knives like phosphor bronze bushings to aid in smoothness and a lockbar stop (aka Hinderer Lockbar Stabilizer). For $40 at WalMart and being made in the USA, this is a very high-value knife.

Here's a review.

The Kershaw R.A.M. is an outstanding flipper knife.
I own one and it is easily one of my favorite knives ever.
Handle one and you'll be sold !

Most recently my two favorite flippers are the Zing and Shallot. The Zing has action like no other, and the Shallot is just a great knife overall, with an assisted flipper thats no slouch.

There are many great flipping knives. Most of the CRKT M16 knives are superb flippers, especially the -14SAF, which has a dual hilt. The CS Recon One also is astounding. And the CS Voyagers are fine, too. It a actually might save time by trying to determine which aren't good flippers, like the Kershaw Storms, which I don't particularly care for. Most knives these days are designed to open fast. Makes me wonder why no one's tried to ban them....

I do need some wrist action to open it.

My only other flipper is a semi-auto Shallot, so I don't know how fast it is compared to other flippers.
