Best folder $200 range. Time to move up.

the zt 550 looks nice. Anyone have one? how ya like it?

I was recently looking for a $175-$200 knife as well. I ended up going with the 0550. It's a very nice knife, but a little on the heavy side (5.8oz)

I recently got my first 303, and I don't know how I lived with out it.

My buddy had the 0560, and it is a great knife.

If it says Zero Tolerance on the blade, its solid.

I also carry Spydercos, and they have some good offerings, but I find the Paramilitary to be the perfect Spyderco for me.

The M390 sprint run blue PM2 is about as good as it gets for anywhere around $200.00. It will out slice about anything. IMO,....it is the best Spyderco knife you can buy.

The weight of a ZT is not hard to get use to.

If you can afford it, the 0560 is the king of folding knives

The 550 is a lot of knife for the money. Of course, once, and if, you get one you'll want to replace the stock scale with one of the beauties from Hinderer. I had the 560 but I guess I don't need a knife that flies open and closes with the breath of a flea.

I have the 0551 which is the same knife only with an Elmax blade. I love it. I also have an 0301 and like it as much, so they alternate often.

Another one to check out is Spyderco's Vallotton Sub-Hilt folder. Very classy, stout, and not too heavy.

Up until now my highest price folder is a paramilitary 2 and a benchmade 710. Got a pretty good tax return, so looking to go up to the $200 bracket. Just looking for folders you would reccomend for EDC?? thanx

Look at what you don't have in your collection, then fill the void with the best you can buy... Branch out and try something new!

Good luck, OP! :)

You could just upgrade what you know and love and pick up either a Para 2 or Benchmade 710 in M390. Or you could pick up something a bit more genteel like a Mcusta Tactictility or a Spyderco Sage 4. Personally, I'm hording my $200 in expectation of the Spyderco Laci Szabo folder, but I like large folders and have been in love with that one for better than a year now.
Agreed go with what you know and like... since you like spyderco my vote goes to the spyderco sprit run military like the cts-xhp and ti. Great knives!

How much better is CTS-XHP than S30V? I have heard XHP referred to as basically D2 with the corrosion resistance of 440C in Tactical Knives magazine, or a high hardness type 440C. Not sure if that's an accurate description, anyone care to elaborate? Just curious if it's worth a ~$70 bump in price.

XHP for me feels like a less chippy ZDP. Easier to sharpen too.

IMHO, no, it is not worth a 70 dollar bump in price. I had the manix 2 in FG w/ the XHP steel, and it was a very good steel, but not worth that price.

That article really talked it up though.

I think the ZT 0560 is worth stretching a bit for as an EDC.
Put in your order and skip lunch for a week or two.

I'm going to actually go down in price from your max and sugest the Spyderco Gayle Bradley. It is quite possibly the best quality knife i have handled at its price point (and a little higher also). And i am a ZT guy so it pains me a little to say that i think the GB is a better value than the ZT 550. I personally can't compare it to the ZT 560 as mine hasn't arrived yet. The ZT 300 series is a totally different knife and while i love it, many arn't able to edc it comfortably.

I agree with the Gayle Bradley as a great knife, in CPM M4. One that I have, in the same league, IMO, is a Spyder Manix2, also in M4 steel. This is a bull of a knife.
The photo shows how the Manix2 has a much wider blade than the Para2. Both are great knives, but I have never carried the Manix2, as too large for my EDC uses.
