It seems there are lots of great knives above $60, but what are some of the great folders that cost less than that?

Jyd ii can be found for around that price in a couple trims. However, I tend not to care how much a knife costs, as long as its price/performance ratio is high :D

What is best is really different for each individual person but there are several good Kershaws less than $60 and the Spyderco Delica is also in that range.

The term great can be pretty subjective, especially when it comes to knives. Some quality folders in that price range with "premium" steel are the Spyderco Native and the Buck Vantage Pro. They both have S30V and can be found under $60. A Queen Country Cousin sodbuster has D2 and goes for less than $30. The AG Russell FeatherLite or Kabar Dozier knives are a good value as well even though they may not have the latest or greatest steel.

Here are my personal favorites:
Benchmade Griptilian
Spyderco Native (S30V w/ FRN handle)
Kershaw Blur (in a wide variety of steel options)

Kershaw Skyline
Kershaw Leek
Kershaw Blur (especially a blem from kershawguy)
Buck Vantage Pro
Buck 110
Spyderco Endura/Delica 4

I have all of these.

Cold Steel Voyager 4-inch/5-inch leaps to mind. Strong, light, sharp, well made, extremely depedable.

Cold Steel Gunsite, 4-inch/5-inch. Same as above, but with standard half plain-, half serrated-tanto blade. This is my EDC.

CRKT M-21-04 4-inch weighs in a bit more, but is strong, well made and attractive. Very impressive, but may weigh a bit too much with its aluminum frame.

Kershaw Storm II 4-inch is strong, slim and attractive. Abrasive strip keeps knife from slipping, but may be too abrasive for some. Recurved blade may turn some people off. Excellent build.

Cold Steel Spartan. With 4.5-inch blade, this is the strongest folder made. Robust, large and somewhat heavy, this knife rivals fixed-blade knives in strength, and is better suited for heavy cutting and outdoor use.

Ebay is the best place to pick up these knives.

Hi DH1 -

As mentioned, probably the best VALUE is the Kershaw Blur - particularly the ZDP-189 composite blem for less than $60 delivered from kershawguy in the exchange forum - outstanding value.

I bought a couple of Benchmade Mini-Griptilians for under $60 each, and I think that is an outstanding daily carry knife - the smoothest I have seen in a knife in that price range and the axis-lock is cool too.

If you like assisted opening, then the Kershaw Leek is a great choice - slim and well made with a thin slicer-blade and an extremely sharp point. Great value for under $30 if you buy a blem from kershawguy in the exchange.

Also to consider is the Kershaw Zing - it is a very nice flipper, smooth with handles that are hard to tell from G10 - and I paid $26 delivered for a NIB one off of ebay.

Finally - how about a Buck Sirus - they have them on the Buck web site under web specials with a nice bald eagle print on the handle for $30 - cannot beat that deal and it has a sturdy blade that comes SHARP.

It's a good time to be in your shoes. I'll bet you cannot buy just one.....

best regards -

Off the top of my head...

Ontario Rat-1
Kershaw Leek
Kershaw JYD II...

but for best bang for the buck, I would buy used from the Exchange section here.

There are a lot of good choices already mentioned; Buck 110, Spyderco Native, Kershaw Leek, and BM Grip are all knives that I'm familiar with and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Another good choice would be the Kershaw OD-1. However, my current favorite EDC is the Kershaw G10 Needs Work.

I'm looking forward to the Spyderco Cat - CF scales and a (presumably razor-sharp) S30V blade for under $50!

Kershaw has a lot of knives in that price range , all of them will do what you ask and more.

With that money a Zing would work great with more than enough left over for lunch and starbucks. :D

Add another big + for Kershaw. If you can eek out another $20, look at the Benchmade 530 as well. To keep it under $60, check some of the CRKT m16 and others, as well as quite a few of the Buck line (a rock solid 110, under $40).
Tons of good choices out there, just take your time and find what feels best in your hands. THAT will be what's most impotant!

Spyderco Cat (or was it Chicago?). Both are under 60 bucks...just one has a larger blade than the other. Both are s30v liner locks with carbon fiber scales.
