Best folder for $ 150

I'd also say go for the BM 710 axis lock. If you can wait a couple of months, you might want to consider the new Elishewitz/BM Ares axis lock coming soon.

I would have to go with BM 710, 720 or the 705 Just my opinion.

After many hours of searching the internet and reading your posts, I think that my knife is going to be a BM 720 with the non-coated blade. Thank you for you input.

Like a blender, contained yet destructive.

Ditto on the BM line of axis locks. However,
I'm slowly becoming discontented with the
G10 slabs on my 710. They're somewhat akin
to a harder version of the old "Tijuana
Retread" sandals fabric. I'd recommend the
720 (though I don't own one YET) or waiting
for the Elishewitz.....or waiting to see what
Ken Onion/Kershaw has to offer lefties in
their Boa line.

Spyderman,

You won't be sorry (unless you get a lemon). I have a 705 and love it. And I'm going to get a 710 and 720 as well. I'm no fan of BMs quality control but from all the posts I've read on the Axis, QC seems to be high. Other than that, it's a wonderfully designed locking system. I'm looking forward to new models as well. Hopefully Spydie will come out with a new locking system that's equally competitive.

Also, I'm a real fan of partially serrated knives AS LONG AS the ps portion is not too long. For me, BM usually has the right amount of serrations. Just enough to be handy but not enough to interfere with smooth cutting.

I have a 705 and love it. I would buy another if I could get bone or horn scales on it. I think that would be bitchin'.

BM 720 is what I would have chosen also.

Now that both Spyderman and Superman are on the forums, where's Wonderwoman and Batman??

The BM 710 or the 720 if you want to put in a little effort (drill and tap). I have a 710 and I really like it but the 720 is an impressive knife to say the least.

Hugh,

I have bought and sold MA SOCOMs right here on the forums NIB for $130. I don't like this policy but no one bitches about it when CRK or Spyderco does the same thing. Can't even get a CRK discounted via E-mail.

When I originally answered the question the non-liner lock was not part of the post. It was edited to say that after my answer.

If I was buying 150$ folder (non linerlock) I would also think seriously about Spyderco large Calypso. I have BM 710 and Calypso and would take Calypso if I had to choose. Absolute lock strenght is not so important to me. Not that axis isn't great but when I was lowering edge angle (to be suitable for sharpmakers 20 degree angle) I really thought badly about axis.

I would have to say the BENCHMADE 710 or any other BM Axis Lock to your liking...

AG said it all, but you may want to wait for the new Elishewitz Ares model 730
