best folder for self defence

It doesn't have to be that bad, even the name of the Spyderco Military was used against a defendant a few years ago.

I shudder in fear, feel my hair stand on end, gulp and get goosebumps every time I hear the words "benchmade seven ten"

using numbers to designate your knives is the best service a company can do for its customers.

I wouldn't shudder too much. The 710 continues to be the best service a company could do for its customers. It's that good.

benchmade 710
spyderco military
spyderco chinook
cold steel voyager bowie 4 inch
crkt m21 large size with aluminum handles with aus8 blade

Spyderco waved Endura works fine for me! So does the Spyderco Chinook (designed by a guy who could teach those Gunsite guys Confederate loves posting pics of so much a thing or two about knife fighting)!;)

Your training should dictate what you use for self defense. From the 4 knives you mentioned, I like the ZT. It seems like the toughest. I'm sure they would all work fine so long as you cut/stab the right places on the attacker.

However if you found yourself in a bad spot and could not avoid confrontation which folder would you most like to have?

If there were absolutely no other considerations, such as legalities or utility, then the biggest one I could find. Probably the of the Cold Steel XXL Voyagers, or one of their Ti-Lites with the six inch blade. I will have a distinct advantage with that over the most exotic three to four inch knife that you can name.

For me I would have to say the spyderco civilian.
Its got good reach, its sharp as a razor, looks scary, and can do some real damage.
Seems like every one in here is talking about stabbing, in a knife fight I would think it would be more slashes then stabs.

".... better yet fast legs to run away...."

Which is the best weapon that you always have with you - your brain.

Chewy1 has the right idea, and there's a pic of a folding stock AK-47 on the survival forum that wouldn't be a bad choice, either.

Even though I'm not a big CRKT fan I'm surprised no one mentioned the Hissatsu Folder since SD was what that knife was designed for.

My choices would be a ZT 300, ZT 200, BM 710 or the Hissatsu Folder out of my collection.

Out of your 4, I'd say BM 710.

Personally, it would be an Al Mar Eagle Ultralight, 4'' blade and light as hell. The blade shape also flows very well with my fighting technique

BTW, I really dislike the ZT knives for self defense. They are bulky, fat, heavy, and give less reach than the Eagle or 710. IMO a defensive blade doesn't need to be 'tough' - it is a carry often, use little type of knife, and if it weighs too much or is too big, you will end up leaving it at home when you need it most.
