Best folder for under $30 street price...

The hole opener (Thumb Notch) model has a more versatile blade shape- a little pointer for more delicate tasks. And it is a true ambidextrious opening model, without having to switch the thumb stud around. Additionally, those who wear gloves will find it much easier to locate a hole rather than a stud, especially in colder weather. All of these KaBar folders have a rather deep hollow grind. The way a blade should be ground for pure cutting tasks. Good lightweight functional folder(s) at the right price!

The best folding knives in that price range, hands down. Since you already bought another knife for your friend, get a Pika or Mini-Pika for yourself. I doubt that you'll be disappointed.

Good choice. That's my favorite of the Ka-Bar Doziers. I prefer the hole to the thumb stud.

The Buck 110 and the Schrade bruin are the 2 users that come to mind in that price range. One's big, the other's small but both are great users. The Schrades are discontinued, as is the company, but lots of them are still around.

Another vote for Buck here but for the Mayo designed Mantis 198 model. It's the right size for pocket carry, solid construction, sharp as heck out of the box and under $30...
