Best folder for under $400?

No one mentioned a BM Skirmish? Light for size, long in reach, excellent lock, full ambi and very fast to open. Of all my knives, that's the one I'd rather have in my hand if things go bad.
 
How about a Ti-Lite? I think it might be useful for a "whip out a 6-inch knife fast and hope they get scared away" game plan :D
 
Mr. Bowie, are you going to carry this knife as a dedicated self defense knife only? Or are you going to be using this knife for everyday chores, and self defense if needed? If the former, then will you carry another knife for everyday cutting? Reason being that if you carry one knife for both jobs, then that will help dictate the style of knife you need to carry. Since you are willing to go $400.00, you are going to have plenty of choices, and sometning like a Sebenza and/or Strider might work for you.
If this knife is going to be a dedicated self defense knife only then I think that something like a Spyderco Civilian might be the ticket.

Bottom line is that you do not hear about many knifefights, you hear about steak knife stabbings, just not a lot about knifefighting. Chances are you will never be called upon to defend yourself with a knife. Just a thought I had.
 
Your location says Arizona. Arizona is a Gold Star carry state, meaning no permit required, open carry, problem solved. Can find plenty of decent caliber handguns for under $400. If you're going to pick a tool for a job, and have the option, choose the most effective tool.
