Looking for a quality, tough "tactical" folder for under $50. Preferably around AUS8 grade steel, ~4 inch blade. Fast opening preferred. I'm looking at the CRKT M21-14SFG, seems to fit the criteria...
Thanks in advance!

P.S.- I'm new, sorry if I break any guidlines...

I think the Kershaw Skyline is pretty good, but the Ontario Rat 1 would be a good choice as well.
Another one is the Spyderco Tenacious. Take a look at that. It's sturdy, and made for use.
Still, the Kershaw Skyline can be opened as fast as an automatic knife, because it has a nice flipper :)

Try SOG, they have a ton of inexpensive knives. you can get a flash 2 for about $50.

I don't have one yet, but think I'll be getting a Kershaw Groove for my next blade. Everything I've read says it's a fast opener and it's good-sized. Plus I love Kershaw and they have a great warranty. Right around $50 shipped at many online retailers.

Spyderco Endura/Centofante about 50-55, you could find 'em in the Exchange here too for cheaper, two of my favorite knives.

I think the Kabar Mule is underrated.

Browning (mcusta) ice storms can be had in the Enchange too, great bang for the buck.

Buck Vantage Pro, as mentioned earlier, is sweet too.

Rat 1 folders slaughter the Tenacious. You get AUS-8 steel, a thick liner lock and very fast deployment for just $25.00,you also get a shaving sharp edge out of the box. It's larger and tougher than the Tenacious. IMO the Ontario RAT 1 is the cheapest best folder anyone can get. They're built like a tank!

"Tactical"? "Fast opening"? If you get into a knife fight, you ARE going to get cut up really good. Or shot. (Some guys carry knives AND guns). I prefer "Practical" to "Tactical"

I just got the Ka Bar Dozier in the mail today ($23)....and after careful inspection, I recommend the Rat 1.

For $50 you could get two RAT-1 folders & have a spare. They use AUS-8 and open VERY smoothly. I have gotten mine sharp to the point of being able to whittle hair - so AUS-8 is definitely capable of taking a good edge.

Spyderco has my vote!

He didn"t ask! :) to the op I would suggest a tenacious or a rat 1 they both fit the bill fairly well! the flash 2 by sog is also nice but not nearly as strong a folder as the other two mentioned!

Go to the exchange and buy a Composite JYD2 from Kershawguy, for $39 shipped the CPMD2 steel and flipper will be a much better value that anything else mentioned here. It's a good deal at $70, $39 is practically stealing it, I've yet to meet somebody who's been disappointed by one yet.
