i wanna get a folder for my girlfriend to have in her purse or something just to be safe, id like to try to get the best value for the money, i dont mind going over 50 bucks but id like stay in that price. any recommendations?

Buck 342BKS or Spyderco Persistence are two examples that I think of right away.

When you say "safe", what do you mean? Do you intend her to use the knife for protection? Is she skilled enough to use a knife for protection? Or do you mean it in the context of having a tool when needed?

Regards,

Rich

well both, im gonna teach how to use, so should a situation arrive she will be safe, but also so she has a good solid tool

I asked a similar question a week or so ago.

The general consensus was the Spyderco Tenacious or Persistence.

I'm thinking she might prefer to use a "cute" knife rather than a big bulky knife or aggressive manly knife. I think the leaf shape blade Spyderco knives with its organic form are popular with the ladies so you might want to consider a pink Native (around $60) or the high value Persistence/Tenacious. Also the Spyderco Cricket is around $50 and pretty appealing to females. If she doesnt care for a girly knife than the Kershaw Skyline is a sweet value and really light and fast.

I really like the Kershaw OD-1 I just got, its a flipper only which is fun to play with only about 3inches, and while its not assisted is the smoothest easiest opening knife I have, very close to a ball bearing system, and the 14C28N will hold an edge longer than the 8Cr13Mov of other knives in this category, the steel frame lock/g10 handles are nice as well. Can be found on many websites for about $40 but I just picked two up at Wally World on clearance for $20 each.

Not sure about pink, but here's another vote for one of the Ka-Bar Doziers. I love mine and the price was excellent. That or a nice SAK - or for that money, both...

If the knife will only be used for the sake of self-defense, I can't really recommend anything less than a delica wave(needs pockets though, and chicks don't seem to use their pockets). If however the facts suggest that she doesn't get "attacked" every other day, the Buck Vantage Pro(large of course) is probably the best value knife at $50.

Personally, my advice would be to get her a nice alox Swiss Army knife for utility and buy a good pepper spray for defense with the remaining funds. My experience has been that teaching someone to use a knife for defensive purpose is really difficult unless they really want that skill set.
