I'm looking for a good full sized (~4 in. blade) folder to be used for cutting and slicing purposes; a good camp knife for food prep, slicing meat/cheese, cutting rope, etc. I was looking at a Benchmade 741; what other good cutting/slicing folders do you suggest?

I think I'd actually have to recommend the Spyderco Endura with ZDP-189. Sounds great for your needs, and less than $100 for ZDP-189 is awesome.

Spyderco Gayle Bradley. It has CPM-M4 steel which is better than ZDP-189 as long as you wipe it down. The toughness of the steel allowed them to make it with a thin, high hollow grind, so it's a champion slicer. And it will keep an edge for a very long time.

If you want a GREAT knife for the field, and considering something like the 710, you should definitely rethink and take a close look at a Spyderco Military. It is my outdoors folder, when I don't need a knife to dive with (then, I justr take a Spyderco Pacific Salt). It has served me well in all my outings. The blade is flat ground, stainless, long and perfectly tapered to the tip. Honestly, do yourself a big favor and take a good look at one of those. You're not gonna be disappointed.

That's definitely the spyderco military, if you'd prefer earth brown g10 and cts-xhp get on a preorder list for the sprint.

Spyderco Military all the way.....It is the folder I would take if I couldn't carry a fixed blade....in fact I take it daily. Great slicer.....

I think you may want to consider carefully what kind of edge you're wanting. A straight edge is best for precision cuts, but less good on rope and such. Serrated edge won't cut as cleanly, and will make a mess of tasks like filleting. If you're looking for a good all around cutter, pick a combo-edge knife, or a REALLY good straight edge. Lots of good options available for that!

The G-10 Spyderco Police with the full flat ground blade (4 3/8") is an excellent slicer.
