Best folders for cutting/slicing?

I think I'd actually have to recommend the Spyderco Endura with ZDP-189. Sounds great for your needs, and less than $100 for ZDP-189 is awesome.

+1

Also check out the Kershaw NRG 2. It has a high hollow grind that is wicked sharp.

+1 for the Spyderco Military. That thing is a mean slicer! If you want a slightly smaller package but with equal slicing capabilities looked to the Paramilitary 2.

Any of the full flat ground Spydercos. In addition to the FFG profile, you don't have studs or disks to get in your way when slicing.

Keep your zytel/tactical knives for other chores.

not much out slices an Opinel , keep one for food etc.

Sebenza, American Lawman, Spyderco Gayle Bradley, and just about every other knife with a hollow grind.

I base this on cutting apples:thumbup:. Fat blades like my ZT 0551 will slice well for the first inch, then completely split the piece of apple in half due to the thickness.

FFG blades are better slicers than saber ground, but not as good as a hollow ground blade.

Kinda makes me wish someone made a hollow ground blade in M390, Elmax, or S90V. My Gayle Bradley is almost perfect aside from corrosion issues.

Best for slicing are THIN blades. That's why the best kitchen knives are so thin.
Of course, in a leisure folder you want some extra sturdiness as well.
With this in mind, the Military and Police are pretty acceptable slicers, but already relatively thick. From the other Spyderco models, I would rather go for Chokwe (a diabolical slicer with an acute tip), or Stretch 2. Possibly the Centofante 3 (less than 3mm thick blade) which is wonderful but the construction is maybe a bit light for camp use.
From the above, Chokwe and Military seem best suited to your usage because their open construction is easier to clean

Looking at other brands, Opinels slice extremely well (that thin blade again) and do consider the EXCELLENT Eka Swede 88, which has only a 3" thin blade but it is such a nice outdoor folder.

The Opinel is hard to beat. Especially with very fine convex edge. Shave with it in the morning, slice an apple at noon... :D

Opinels are easily the best, but they aren't your typical modern folder if thats what your looking for. Most spyderco FFG's are nice along with the gayle bradley.

I'm looking for a good full sized (~4 in. blade) folder to be used for cutting and slicing purposes; a good camp knife for food prep, slicing meat/cheese, cutting rope, etc. I was looking at a Benchmade 741; what other good cutting/slicing folders do you suggest?

hi any Opinel they are great sliccers :D

spyderco centofante 3

^The blade on the C3 is about an inch shorter than what he's looking for. It is a nice slicer with that 2mm stock, though.
