i like folding knives with deployment holes over thumb studs, and was wondering what you guys think are the best of the folders with a deployment hole.

NOTE: There is no need to point out any spyderco knives, its obvious that all of their knives have a deployment hole.

pics would be greatly appreciated.

The Buck Vantage series has a hole (and also a flipper). Strider makes several models with holes but they are $$$$. CRKT has a framelock called the Pazoodle or something like that.

The grandfather of all non-Spyderco hole openers is the Benchmade AFCK. If you look around you can find a dealer exclusive with M390 steel at a really good price. The Bone Collecter is also nice if you can get past the stupid graphics on the blade.

p-p-p-paramilitary 2... Oops! I said a spyderco :D

+1 My first thought when I saw the thread title. The Para 2 is a force to be reckoned with, heck of a good knife.

Benchmade AFCK if your looking for offering from the heathen companies ;)

Yep, this thread seems almost silly, considering that it's basically asking "What's the best model that uses a Spyderhole. Oh, but you can't mention the company that invented the feature, even though they have most of the best in the class I'm asking about." AFCK seems like the ticket if you're not going to get a Spyderco.

I was always fond of my Benchmade Dejavoo. Not a big fan of the mini though.

Then there's the BM AFCK. I'm not a big fan of them at all, but here is a picture.

KaBar makes a Dozier folder for about $20. Very good Value.

Another one to look at is the AG Russell FeatherLite.

I have both of these and have had no problems with them.

My Benchmade Mini DejaVoo has a hole in it too.

I can see a reason for it. I'm a big fan of round hole openers too, but occasionally I like to branch out and buy a different brand. I already have a zillion Spyderco's.

Benchmade Dejavoo.. and the Griptilian with the hole instead of a thumbstud is pretty nice.. other than that.. Military, para2, manix2, Endura4, Sage1,2,3,4, Tenacious, CF-Stretch, and Gayle Bradley are top notch. Love them all very much!

Sorry, I have no photo ability at the moment, but:

Benchmade 550/555 Griptilian
David Boye Boat knife
Victorinox One-Hand Trailmaster

among others...

Any knife that does not have a major ramp due to the thumb hole is G2G in my book. Strider SnG and Spyderco Native come to mind.

hey guys is the BM 550HG any good? or is getting a sheepsfoot blade just cuz i want a hole a bad idea?

I have one and I think it's a great knife. You will be surprised how useful that blade shape is, and it's certainly an easy profile to sharpen.

If you don't want a Spyderco (counter-productive), I would say the thumb-hole Grip. But you haven't given us any info at all to work with. What's your price range, what will the knife be used for, do you want a beefy knife or a nice slicer, why in the name of all that is holy would you not want a Spyderco... Etc.

I have no experience with the knife, but this French company also produces a spydie hole rip-off.
